Break the Bank! Epic poem contest
Poetry Contest
Write an epic poem of at least 100 lines, with a maximum of 200 lines. When I sponsored a "Write a Poem of Length" contest that went to the voting booth in January - I was surprised at how much trouble there was by contestants as to what constituted a line. To keep this clear and understandable, as I want no one to lose their chance at winning over a misunderstanding, this contest requires the poem to be written in quatrains. A quatrain of four lines per stanza means the length of your work should be between 25 and 50 quatrains in length. Every line must have a minimum foot or length of at least 6 syllables. Must conform to one of the following rhyme schemes: A-A-B-B, A-B-A-B, or A-B-C-B.
Write your poem about some kind of conflict in epic proportions. Your story must be original - with at least two new characters involved. Please do not write a story explaining a familair story such as about; the Titanic, Bonnie and Clyde, the O.J. Simpson murder case, etc. Write of fantasy characters or creatures, impossible events, or invented conflicts, like a fictitious battle between Genghis Khan and Napoleon. (Just remember to include at least two completely new characters who will actively participate in the story.) You are required to write a fresh, new, fictional story - in poetic form - with your own characters. For the entry fee, do it up big!
