Capture an "aha" moment, with concrete images.
Refer to a season, either by name or inference.
2 grammatically-connected lines and 1 fragment.
Short/long/short format (by syllable count).
Present tense.
No end-rhymes.
No capitalization (except "I" and proper names).
Minimal punctuation.
Art is okay, but the poem should be clear without it.
(If you cover the art, does the poem still make sense?)
No author notes to explain what the poem means.
(Allow the reader the joy of discovery.)
Description line must say only "contest entry".
Haiku are not usually titled, except as follows:
haiku (first line of the poem).
