We are happy to welcome a new instructor! Jim Bartlett (Pantygynt) first class is available. He will be teaching Rhyme -- a Poetic Device. Jim is an ex-Royal Marine Officer, and retired teacher, with a good honours degree in Education, and English and Drama, from London University. He has been published in poetry magazines and newspapers from time to time. In 2005 he produced a CD of self-penned songs under the title of "Tomorrow Never Comes", and published a poetry collection of thirty-six poems in 2012 entitled, "Triple Dozen" prior to joining FanStory in March 2015. His songs and poems have won several competitions. Jim has also lectured on English Folk Lore and Song for the WEA in SE London in the late 1970s. He was urged to enrol as an instructor on FanStory by many who found his reviews of their poetry particularly helpful.

We are saddened to share the news of the passing of a FanStory author and friend of FanStory. Gayle (Showboat) touched many authors on the site as an author and reviewer. In 2005, she was Fanstory's 4th ranked novelist and in 2008 she was again ranked #4 in the novelist category. She founded G and J Publishing that is the publisher of many FanStory authors including "Pieces of Her Mind" that is a compilation of Japanese poems by (as she said) "our talented FanStory authors". She will be greatly missed.

A site upgrade has been announced. Contests that are supported by the Contest Compliance Committee will no longer go directly to vote. Instead, the committee will review the entries prior to the vote. When the review is completed by the committee the booth will be created and the vote will begin. Once the vote begins no work will be disqualified. This process can take from 1 to 4 days.

New Class Announced! Do you know where writers make the most money? While Stephen King may earn big bucks in fiction writing, for most writers it is in nonfiction that will bring in the cash. The possibility for writing in different genres of nonfiction and selling to their markets is nearly endless. In this class, the student who already has basic understanding of nonfiction will have the opportunity to choose one topic of interest, such as a contemporary issue or the life of a public person, and explore it through writing a series of nonfiction pieces. A retired teacher, she regularly reads her poems in public and acts in many plays in Terre Haute, Indiana. Her present play, Matchmaker, tells the story of a divorced professor who has watched her ex-husband marry a much younger woman, now pregnant. Her daughter has been alarmed, watching her mother sink into depression, and suggested an online dating site. She has been a Fanstory member since June of 2011.
