makewine: I have received both conflict and accord for my submittals, and my comments, (and some of my replies too) and I want to stress I gladly accept them all. I ask only that my words be judged; from a personal perception (opinion) as to how the intent was or was not clear and why from that point of view. As such, there can be no dispute because opinions are personal. As well to be scrutinized for errors of composition: misspelled words, inadequate punctuation, etc. An objective analysis, which has and requires proof. The double edged sword too easily cuts the wrong way when swung with abandon by not acknowledging the difference of the two. I dislike being wrong , so when I believe a challenge to another's comment is merited; I will defend only the objective review if my personal research is contradictory. I will not badinage, when the commenter proclaims an opinion as a validated truth however. Share with me your reasoning without accusation. If ever my comments and/or replies have seemed offensive, let me know why you feel so. For me, being offended is a self owned emotion and, more often than not, unworthy to reveal. There is a fine line though, when I'm compelled to think my character is being ridiculed. Lastly, most of the words I group together, are fashioned from within not just my mind; but my heart and soul. These expressions display what I see, how I feel, and as such need no review and yet I will not disparage any who wish to do so. Otherwise why bother to post? It is one thing to speak too quickly and then bite your tongue. It is another to write too quickly. For there is the first thought as what to write and the more considerate thought to hen do so. In a world supposedly leaning toward a "paperless" society". words whether here or there or anywhere they can be seen, cannot be unseen. If I choose to allow others to read my words, by default I must accept their acknowledgement of reading them. if they choose to inform me. After that..., well. |

saying, and so I will respond in the best way possible...I may not be correct, but it seems you are having a problem with reviews, and comments, on your work...I read your profile, and saw that you have only been on the site for a very short time, and because I have been here for over 10 years, I thought it may be helpful to express how much I have enjoyed all of those years...Opinions are the thoughts, ideas, and feelings of a person, based on their experiences, and not on the certainty of any given subject...I see no problem with that..most especially since writing, whether poetry or prose, most often is based on personal thoughts, ideas and opinions...On this site there are some excellent reviewers and writers...many have been here for years, other teach classes, in an effort to encourage others and to give aid to them in reaching their goals as professional writers...in the market place...What I respect and appreciate about these people is their ability to also have comments, and thoughts given on their work and to accept them graciously...Many of the greatest writers in the world of literature, have had their works reviewed, critiqued and taught..yet we must admit we have learned from so may of them...at least I have, while in college, even while teaching, I was still learning...I don't think we ever know it all...A closed mind, is a wasted mind. I wish you well.. -
Most of us here on FS agree that the rating system really counts for little in the grand scheme of things. However when anything is given less than a 5 star rating it is required that the work is given the corrections is possibly/probably needs. Ratings should never be given on personal feelings. To say you don't like a piece or a piece is not worth reading, is to say the least unhelpful, but it is also rude. There is also a site rule against defending your work or revenge reviewing. I have little patience with people who do that, and will immediately report them to Tom. Giving a low rating for something that you do not understand is not a good thing. For example I noticed your comment re a haiku. You gave a low rating admitting you knew little about the form. There are several haijin (haijin those who write haiku) on the site e.g.Mumsyone, Donaldww, are but two who excel in this form. I will respectfully suggest you check out some of their submissions to further your understanding. We have some wonderful writers on the site, they are willing to help and give sound advice if you don?t understand something. While there are many here who are ?self-proclaimed? experts, IMHO I have found the true experts are the ones who continue to write beautiful works but remain humble. It is better to leave a piece alone and not review it if you do not understand it. The site has some excellent teachers and it offers on-line classes offered in many forms of prose and poetry. My sincere advice is to fan some of the better writers and reviewers they most often will return the favor and fan you. We are all here to learn. I like to think we can, and should learn something new each day. The day I stop learning is the day I will leave this mortal world. -

As for defending your work by arguing with a reviewer, doing so will get you reported. It's against site rules. Just say, "Thanks" and move on. You will receive all sorts of reviews from people who know what they're talking about, and some from people who don't. Most people mean well and are trying to help you improve your craft. You aren't required to accept their suggestions,, but you cannot respond with rudeness or argument. -

makewine: I am 60 years young and have written poems and lyrics since I was very young. I have now determined it will be interesting to see how of my words are viewed by others. |
