Dris Horton: I actually have a sizable body of work but have never been published. I'm about 99% done with my first novel, a piece of historical fiction set in Civil War era Louisiana. Approximately 110,000 words, 22 chapters and an epilogue. I'm over 50,000 words into my second novel, also historical fiction based largely on my late grandfather's WWII experience as a pilot shot down in Nazi occupied Yugoslavia. I've also written quite a few short stories. One is based on my Katrina experience,(I live in New Orleans). It's very different from the two novels, which are somewhat family oriented stories, PG-13 if you will. However, The Angst and the Blur-A Tale of Katrina, is definitely rated R. Screenplays are in the works for both my novels, but I have another screenplay that happens to be my current project. I'm actually in the process shooting a 30-minute pilot for the story, which I hope to have ready for the New Orleans Film Festival in October. I have written some poetry but not much. I did submit one of my poems to the New Yorker magazine. Never heard back from them. Perhaps that will be my first piece to share with you. It's a silly bit of prose about taking over the world. More later. Dris |
