HelioNova: Some exciting things are going on this weekend! I feel myself opening up to new possibilities and adventures. I've been feeling rather impulsive, but not carelessly so. For example, while perusing an old antique shop yesterday, I went on a whim and blew $50 on a charming, old TYPEWRITER! As a writer, I have always wanted one. I didn't even think twice. It has some restoring to do, but besides a lazy 'e' type bar and a nearly dry ribbon, it's in great condition! Early birthday present to myself! In other news, I'm thinking about entering the Google Science Fair. This is my last year I will be eligible to enter because of my age. The grand prize this year is a trip to the Galapagos Islands with a NatGeo Explorer! Plus, my interest in science and the cosmos has increased dramatically over the last year. Now all I need is to think of a question... |

HelioNova: I feel so silly! I did not realize that FanStory has such an easily accessible mobile site. It isn't nearly as good as the normal site, but I will definitely be able to come on way more than I had originally thought! Sorry for jumping the gun, you guys. By the way, I just want to thank all of you wonderful people for helping me figure this site out, and making me feel welcome and right at home. This community of writer's has got to be one of the kindest, but also the most honest. You all are not afraid to put me in my place, and I really appreciate that. This could possibly be exactly what I've been looking for. My only regret is that I didn't find it sooner :) |

HelioNova: Today is my first day really getting to explore and utilize FanStory. It is a little tricky to navigate, at first, but I think I've figured out the basics. I know now that I can send PM's, for instance, and also how to become a fan. The certificates and what not are a little confusing, but I'll get the hang of it sooner or later. The only complaint I have so far is that this site seems a little too money oriented. I went ahead and upgraded my membership for a month, just to try it out, because I really just want people to read my work and help me improve. Improvement is the sole reason I am here. Yet, it seems like the less money I have the harder that will be for me to do. I thought that upgrading would be my only fee. Perhaps it is my fault for not reading further into it, but I did not realize that I would also have to pitch for these "certificates" in order to up my chances of getting reviews. Coming from a broke, aspiring college student, this is not good news. Do any of you lovely people have some advice on how I can get adequate help without breaking my wallet? |

I'd like to suggest two more strategies for surviving the rigors of FanStory. They take time and patience, but the payoff is well worth it. 1. Enter the writing competitions. Some (the prompts and member-sponsored ones) cost $$$ to join in the fun; but others are site-sponsored and cost nothing to enter. They all pay the winners, either in real cash or member dollars. It's another way to accumulate some money on here that you can use to promote your work. They're also a lot of fun, if you don't take them TOO seriously. ;-D 2. Become a fan of your favorite writers. This is great for exposure, and your fans will often reciprocate by becoming a fan of yours. When you "fan" someone, you'll be notified (by Private Message, or PM) whenever he/she posts something new. Conversely, your fans will be notified As I said, it's a great way to get your work noticed by others. - | ||
