gialee: I'm not sure they be doing that. The mine was completely empty. This was their chance. It was said that treasure was in the coal mine beneath the floor. They started down. There was an old wooden plank but it had chunks of coal down the side of it. Marta slipped and fell two feet down the board. It was covered in rocks. Aiden went down the the hill calling her name. Frantically they tried to get out, Finally Aiden reached down and pulled Marta out and then he climbed out himself. Marta was crying. She had a big scratch running down her leg and a large bump on her forehead. As he was bandaging her leg he said "maybe we should go .." Marta recovered quickly. "Marta said, "No we should go on to find that treasure. I'll be carefull now." They started down the board where broken shards of coal lined both sides of the board. They climbed down carefully now to the edge of the board. There were tons of coal dust on the ground and there was a deeper pit almost hidden. "Well, Aiden said, we have look a little farther" Marta said' "we have to go farther down." At that moment whole flock of bats came zig-zagging out. Marta screamed and Aiden did his best to wave them away with his jacket. Marta jumped into the pit and soon Aiden after her. They traveled through thick coal dust for a while and even Marta was beginning to relax when they saw little tufts of yellow all over the place. When they walked closer they were dead canaries all over. ;Oh Aiden, let's go home now; Marta cried. At that moment there was a rumbling sound and the whole side of the pit fell down. There was only a little path way and that led a deeper pit. Marta was in tears. "Now we'll never get out." Aiden said,:I'll get us home. Don't cry and maybe with some riches too, but I,ll get you home." Then he hugged Marta and they continued down the narrow pit. Sometime later Aiden asked if she wanted a snack. He had brought along two sandwiches and two plastic bottles filled pepsi cola wrapped tightly in his case. Marta looked down at her coal dust hands and said "I don't think so", but she did that drink her little bottle of pepsi. Down deep they traveled into the pit looking for the way out. Three feet down they heard the sound of water. They got excited. This could be their way out. They were surprised by a river swirling at the bottom of the pit. The river was quite big. Aiden wondered if they should try to swim it. Marta said, "There could be an exit on the other side. I'm a good swimmer." Aiden was a good swimmer but hesitated to let Marta swim that wild river. "Aiden said, "Why don't you let me swim the river. If there's any opening at all I'll come back for you." Marta said, "I don't agree. Your not going to leave me in danger when I could be with you to protect me." So they jumped in the river together, Aiden as close as he could be to Marta. She was right she was a good swimmer. He had to speed to keep up with her. They were coming pretty close to the other side when an alligator raised his ugly head out of the water. Marta screamed and she swam as fast she could with Aiden by her side. She could see how close to the shore they were but the alligator was close too. She felt his hot breath as she reached the shore. Marta turned to see Aiden to see he already had a deadly stone to throw on him. While the alligator was stunned Aiden and Marta ran to the shelter of the trees. They ran till the Alligator was behind them, then they saw a little light at the edge of the cave. They ran for it. Freedom at last. Then they heard a little boy crying. "I can't get out. Doesn't anyone hear me? "We have to find him" Marta said looking longingly at the cave." Aiden said, "I'll get you out." They saw a vine entangled and the middle of it the boy. Every time he tried to get out ropes of poison ivy, thorn bushes, tree limbs held him back. Both Aiden and Marta tried to get him out. Then Aiden got a fallen tree limb and proceeded to chop down the stuff which surrounded him. He brought him out of thorn laden path. Marta folded the little boy in her arms who was still crying. Aiden saw gold twinkling there in the light. It was the treasure. Marta and Aiden began to shout for joy. Then they heard a deep rumbling sound and the cave and the light to freedom to get out was totally covered. |
