tomprato: Wow, I've reached Level 7 as a Reviewer. It's been hard work. Slogging day and night. Going through piles of writing, of which less than 20% is good stuff. I hope the level of writing improves. We need to be honest in our reviewing, and cut out the flattery and mutual admiration. |

tomprato: Life as a reviewer. Some of the stuff that I read here is weird and disgusting. I mean the horror stuff. I don't know why people give in to such febrile fantasies. They seem to like nightmares. Ugh. But there are others who write so well. It's a pleasure reading their writing. Healthy imagination. Good sense of values. |

tomprato: My thoughts about this whole business of reviewing. To me it's clear that FS standards are quite lax. We find lots of people who average between 3 and 4, getting 5. Let's be honest about it. If we know literature (be it poetry, story-telling, or whatever), we will be critical in a very positive sense. No, we are not condemning the stuff that is written, but if one is honestly critical then only 10% of the FS writing comes up to the 5 mark. The reason why FS standards are so lax and liberal is that FS wants to encourage more writers coming in. But God forbid if the bad writing pushes the good writing out. In economics it is called Gresham's Law. |

tomprato: I've been meditating on salt. Here are some of its virtues. Salt adds to taste and flavour. Salt is essential for survival (removes excess acids in the body, and balances blood sugar). Salt heals (salt water gargling; sea salt baths; IV solutions). Salt preserves (salt fish, salted foodstuffs). Salt cleans and purifies (removes dirt, stains and bad odour. Salt speaks of wealth (was used as money in olden times; we get the word 'salary' from salt). Salt has so many uses (16,000 according to one estimate; it is used in medicines, helps in melting ice, used in industry, etc). Salt mixes well (it easily dissolves in water). Salt speaks of faithfulness (it retains its taste for hundreds of years; the Bible speaks of a 'covenant of salt'; there are expressions in languages that speak of 'betraying one's salt' ). Salt is incorruptible. How many virtues of salt are there? Salt is enduring Salt is an enduring mineral. Not only does it stand the test of time, but it also stands the test of pressure without losing its taste or being destroyed! Genuine salt is indestructible! Salt will only dissolve if it is heated to 1474 degrees Fahrenheit. That's how hot it has to get before salt even begins to melt. However, even when it does melt, it still maintains its saltiness, or its taste - this is how enduring it is! It can be ground through the most intricate processes, sprinkled on hot, cold or frozen food, and still keep its saltiness! Nothing will change this enduring mineral. |

tomprato: Just discovered what SPAG means. Spelling, punctuation and grammar mistakes. There are lots of them in the stuff I read. Somehow education is neglected in this country. They don't teach them how to read and write. There is no respect for the English language. |

tomprato: Just discovered that there is something called the Redwall series. I look forward to reading it. They are stories written by Brian Jaques. |

tomprato: 17th June. I have been slogging through all these reviews of various types of 'literary stuff', but it has been an uphill task. One can write bland reviews in a few lines, but all my in-depth reviewing is only 'a back-breaking labour'. I find that after reaching Level 5, there is another mountain ahead of me. I feel like Sisyphus. This is a new kind of Internet/FS torture. |

tomprato: I would like to share my poems. I started writing poetry at the age of 16 and continued till the age of 19. Thereafter I stopped writing poetry. Then I put up these teenage poems of mine on a poetry website in 2006, and the poetry lovers there enjoyed them. That inspired me to write some more poems - mostly spiritual in nature, because I had since become a 'born again' believer in Christ. I stopped writing poetry again, but wrote a few poems in 2010. I view poetry as 'word-crafting' or 'painting in words'. But it is more than painting, it is also 'music in words'. I also write spiritual stuff. Those who are Christian will love my spiritual postings on Facebook. (I am there under a pseudonym.) |

It's snowing flowers Over the trees, white dogwoods Garland the route in Princeton, NJ. I'm charmed with Spring's "Welcome to USA". Title: Arrival in America, April 2011 Note: Arrived at JFK airport on April 12, and passed through New Jersey en route to Newark DE. Saw this beautiful neighborhood in Princeton, New Jersey. Was delighted with nature's welcome 2 months ago. - | ||
