War Children
by Glasstruth
I found the poem well written and interesting, but I am not sure if it is fitting as a song rewrite, though I enjoyed reading the lyrics for comparison.
"George W.'s war," get me to raise my eyebrows as I totally freaked out and produced a deer in the headlights look on a Pulitzer prize winning poet, "Mr.. Snodgrass, how can you call it Bush's war in Iraq, when it was Sadam Hussein himself and Iraq's parliament that lodged a formal declaration of war on US."
What always bothered me greatly is the utter disrespect and contempt people had when the said, "Bush's war on terrorism." Personally I felt he was entirely right, though I believed he dropped the ball when it came to executing it properly and what he needed to do to help wipe terrorism out. Terrorism is definitely something that requires eternal vigilance as well as a willingness to fight it.
What bothers me greatly about your poem is I do fear you are right with a lot of what you say and what this war has devolved to. I have for a long time felt, this administration not only doesn't get it, but their policies are responsible for killing more soldiers then the enemy, and you tube is filled with footage of battling troops ordered not to shoot back, though under fire.
The administration identifies with the wrong people and extends olive branches to people who only want to beat the world about with them, as well turning more attention to their political enemies then the people who need to be stopped. Ironically for the sake of world peace.

It's interesting that saw Sadam loged a war against the US. He had nothing to do with 9-11. We went there for the oil, and thought we'd turn all of the Middle East into a democracy because they would see how wonderful things would be when we got there. I suppose your facts are different than mine. Thanks for the lenghty in depth review. Much appreciated! Les
