Hi Rhonda, what an interesting tale of the Wampus cat. Those legend stories came from some active minds. I sent the book to you today. Thanks again!

Thank you, Melissa. I'm late on getting these reviews done. As you know, I already have the book. My mother-in-law has already read it half-way through. She says she keeps reading until she falls asleep. She says it's really good and she can't put it down! I haven't even gotten a chance to re-read it, haha.

Of course, she was raised in the rural South, so she can relate to a lot of it.

    Take care,
    Rhonda

Nara is pretty much in a learning experience with the bothers. She learns about their upbringing without much guidance from their parents. Yet, they are nice boys, having contrasting personalities who treats her well.

Lovely artwork that complements your chapter very well. I can't remember much of the previous chapters. I enjoyed this one though. Well written. Bit much dialogue perhaps.

Hi Rhonda;
I like the conversation about why worrying isn't worth the time. We can plan for things, and try to guess the outcome, but worrying doesn't accomplish anything.

I'm continuing to enjoy the development of these characters and their interaction. Looking forward to more,

~patty~

Nice work, Rhonda. I enjoyed the build up for what's to come next. Down south, we've a few old stories. Snipe hunting was the bigger one, but I've a vague recollection of the something about a wampus cat. Good work on this! I didn't notice anything to change :)

Take care,
Russell

Thank you, Russell. Yes, the South is ripe with legends. This was one of my father's favorites. haha. He would have loved me adding this to the book.

Sorry I'm so far behind on responding.

    Take care,

The title grabbed me. I never heard anyone speak of wampus cats but my dad, born in 1906 and ran away from home at sixteen to wander around Texas and the southwest (and help build early cross country highways). He used them to scare me out of the woods, a synonym for the mythical "Painter", a much fiercer beast than a cougar(The stone structures on Fort Mountain now are thought to be left by Incas or Mayans of the fourth century AD, and the bones of Jaguars have been found in the South.) Do you suppose all these legends ran together? Jaguars are awesome.
Excellent prose.

I heard about them from my father, too. Funny. No one quotes legends any more. Everything is about the new super heroes.

Must have been panthers are jaguars. I've heard of them roaming about the South as well.

Thanks for taking the time to review. Sorry my response is so late. I've been busy moving parents to Assisted Living.

    Take care,

I love the history of the wampus cat.
These type of stories always intrigue me.
I'll admit I have to slow down when I read it to make sure I don't get Henry and Hank confused.
I think I'm better off if I call them Zeus, Hades, and Poseidon.
Great writing!
Michael

    Thanks, Michael!
I may have to trade to those names as well. I get them mixed up, too! Haha.
    Thanks for the suggestions.

-Another very good chapter, Rhonda.
-Excellent description as the chapter begins.
-It seems as far as backgrounds go, Nara
has more in common with the brothers
than she would have thought.
-Then, Riley enters the picture, and
she really has trouble accepting him,
even though he is educated, but I
think a lot has to do with her caretaker
and her own insecurities.
-I do give her credit for simply changing the subject.
-I'm not sure she thinks the old horse she
is riding is capable of getting "fired up!"
-I enjoyed the chapter, my friend.

Thank you for the six, Pam, and for the wonderful review.
Sorry I'm so late on responding. I've been moving my parents to Assisted Living near me. It was rough getting them to go, and to leave behind so much that meant a lot to them, but they are able to bring some things, and they were in too bad a shape to enjoy what they did have.
They love it where they are, and my sister and I go back to where they lived, which is a 2 hour drive, to get them things as we realize what they still need/have room for.
Thanks for the stars and the review. You're a dear.

    Take care,
    Rhonda

You are very welcome and deserving of the stars and review, Rhonda. Don't worry about the late reply. I am sorry to hear about your parent's situation; I am sure that is a very difficult thing for them and the family.

It?s hard to watch your parents fade away, but at least I still have them for now! Thanks for your empathy!

Yes, it is very hard, Rhonda, but as you said, you have them for now. You are welcome for the empathy, my friend. My thoughts are with you.

Hello Rhonda,
Your dialogue is excellent in the interplay with Nara and the others.
We gradually learn more and more of the lives
and the personalities of the main characters,
plus a nice comparison to the traits of their horses.
The old Wampus Cat is a well known folktale in the Appalachian Mountain area,
I'm sure it spread to Texas, too.
Somehow, I think Old Buck will prove his worth. Experience is priceless. The older I get, the more I believe this!
The humor is nicely done, too. Subtle is better than loud.
Well done, once again.
I'm enjoying your story very much.
Robert

Thank you for the six stars, and interactive comments, Robert.

I was trying for subtle, so I'm glad it comes across that way.

Funny on the Wampus cat being an Appalachian legend. I always thought my father made it up when he'd talk about it. You never knew with him, haha. He had quite the imagination.

Apparently, the Wampus cat made it's way to Texas, as well.

I think you're right on Old Buck. Can't ever get anything past you...

    Thanks again,
    Rhonda

This is you and your wonderful storytelling at its best, yet again. I am so ready for this love story, too. See what has happened to me? I'm looking forward to a love story. Somebody shoot me.

I really like Nara.

Haha, I hooked you on the love aspect. The thing is, I hardly ever have romance, so when I do, it's a rarity. Of course, no one's kissed yet. lol.

Thanks for keeping up, and sorry for the late response. I've been moving my parents to Assisted Living. As you well know, caretakers are crap. My parents were so undernourished, my step dad weighed 98 pounds, and my mother 119. Of course, it took a major act of God to get them to agree to move, but now they are close to me and my sister and having a ball at the "Hotel".

    Thanks so much,
    Rhonda

Oy, yay, Rhonda. I'm so glad you got them to move. Sounds like they might've starved to death at that place anyway. Jesus, how do these places stay open?
reply by the author on 03-Mar-2018
These were people we hired to take care of them in their home. They would say they were there when they weren?t, got thousands of dollars from my parents, and their house was filthy. We tried to get the folks to leave, but I understand why they didn?t want to leave their home. Finally, there was an ice storm and one of the caretakers took off and left them there. The electricity went out. We got the hospice nurse to go out there until my sister could get there. That convinced them to let us move them to the Assisted Living .

OMG... there is no excuse. You should have them charged with elder abuse!
