Wonderful description and imagery. Great use of alliteration. A sad story and I do wonder what happened to the lonely maiden and will she ever be found?

Tragic, vivid and sad. This is beautiful and well written. I love the imagery. I could hear the ocean and the gulls.

"Seaweed wafts over her floating form.
She grips a chain in her hand like a talisman,
the name of her murderer engraved in gold."

Great job.

You were able to capture the hopeless cases of mysterious disappearance of people mostly women and little girls. Another stat in the unsolved murder cases brought to the attention of police authorities and their numbers are growing. Thanks for sharing a poem with very strong social relevance. All the best, well done.

Hi Frogbook, this is a very well written poem on a grim subject. But your work is beautifully descriptive. I particularly like -

Her body is pulled closer to the sea with the next strong wave
Velvet manta rays swim over her legs.
A plethora of loquacious gulls squawk overhead,
wings diaphanous in the sunlight,
lithely riding the warm currents of air. ..... The whole poem is a good read. Warm regards Dorothy x

This is a very tender and sympathetic free verse ballad on this sad subject
but your artistic imagery, in superb literary excellence, captures its plight and pity masterfully. Blessings, john

A good story. An actual occurrence or deep consideration, both are disturbing realities for its beholder, given thoughts a pill can't cure. The picture is precisely projected in this work, the cruel corpse floating as nature's victim. Very crisp defining of scene by given wording in this write. All in my opinion of this work.

Hello!
The visual descriptions found within your "sad little story" are incredibly powerful. Such are these times, I am afraid. As I read it, I thought of Simon in Golding's "Lord of the Flies." Powerful
One little nit: Iridescent need not be capitalized...unless, of course, you are employing poetic license.

Best Wishes,
diane

Here we have a free verse 'tableau vivant' of death. Yes that statement is somewhat oxymoronic but the tableau moves as a result of the sea's action rather than by voluntary action of the corpse. The impression of life therfore remains and is implied also by the actions of the sea creatures that interact with the girl's murdered body. This is an exceptionally moving piece in more senses than just one.

Had I sixstars at my disposal I would have awarded them here.

Hi JoAnn. This is a unique premise for a poem. Yes, there are soOO many unsolved disappearances. Your unique choice of wording throughout this piece created a vivid, living imagery for your reader. You taught me a new word (bucolic).
"Velvet manta rays swim over her legs" ... this was my favorite line. What an image!

I enjoyed your story in a poem. Well done! ~~ Connie

I love the artwork you choose to go with your poem
It is so beautiful and it goes well with your sad poem.I didn't find this to be so violent.
The life in the ocean is not much different then human life
that is how it must be.
Thank you for sharing.
