Love this! What a beautiful story of hope! She never gave up and look what happened!
At first I was wanting her to go with Bernie I didn't want her to spend another Christmas alone, but I am so glad she decided to stay.
I felt her joy and her tears.
Great job!

This is a very beautiful story. Very heart-warming.
I really liked this:
Silence was a voice Rose knew only too well, and as darkness descended, she couldn't tolerate the empty house a moment longer. ('Silence was a voice Rose knew only too well' is awesome.)

    you are so welcome. I don't write much prose but I do write a piece of poetry now and then lol ... well it's all those flagrant self ads I've been seeing lately! Must be that as it is most definitely not 5.00 here yet... you're welcome! This is an amazeball story! xx d

This is a splendid Christmas story, well plotted and written, with clearly defined characters, plausible dialog, and based upon circumstances far more common than most want to acknowledge during the presumed joyful holiday season.

Here we have the widow, Rose, still grieving the loss of her beloved husband, with grown step-sons away living their own busy lives, yet whose loving letters to her have been intercepted and not delivered for years by a postmaster for his own nefarious reasons, thus leading her to believe she was alone and abandoned. Rose is distraught enough not even to be able to accept her caring, long-time housekeeper's kind invitation to dinner at her own (separate) residence.

Everything changes when, after going for a lonely walk in the cold and snow, Rose steps into a church for physical warmth and receives it spiritually as well in the preacher's words on how one can make a difference, which becomes the theme of the heartwarming rest of the story, as God seems to be rewarding Rose for realizing both that she is never truly alone and that she herself already did -- and can still -- make a positive difference in the lives of others. Superb.

A thoroughly beautiful story of faith rekindled on entry to the warmth of w church, and the renewing faith of a lost conviction. All the that time that wretched postmaster had been withholding, or hiding the letters from her sons. I loved the the characters, the loveable Rose, the delightful Bertie, and the prodigal sons, and a great, measured plot, well done, good luck, blessings, Roy
Typo : I decided to come personally (and) fetch you. 2: you didn't respond(.) save a time or two.

Hi there;
Such a beautiful Christmas story! You did a great job of building the story and defining your main character. The facts about her were woven into the texture of the story and the reader rejoiced with her when her son came to take her to their homes for the holidays.

Well done!

This is a beautiful story.

I love the characters, the plot, the language---some word choices were perfect: ""Rose uncorked her bottled grief...." Awesomely said.

The hope in the story is something I needed today, too.
