I am glad you were inspired by Dawn's personal story and shared the result with us. I also admired your selection of the Mary Cassatt-like painting. I am amazed by your courage and cannot imagine the lost of twins. I salute your ability to be philosophical and remind us that "no child is ever truly gone...or alone...". Thank you for sharing your life's experience and gratitude with us- Joan

    HELLO Sweet Sunshine,
Thank you for your sensitivity and empathy on this story, and the painting, my favorite too.
Actually, they were not born twins, they were lost 18 months apart in Iraq/afghan war.
This was resurrected from draft few years back, after inspiration from Dawn's profound story.
Thus, life goes on and we move on too. Thanks too dear, for the EXTRA STAR on this...
    Love, hugs galore, Ronni

Thank you for the clarification about the eighteen month difference in age--so much like twins. I greatly admire your ability to be philosophical and recognize that life goes on and we must as well. Warm regards- Joan

Thank you dear...to do less than that
would be to dishonor them...and all
those that serve and take on a challenge
    to benefit more than themselves...
    Hugs evermore, Ronni

Yes, yes--I salute their willingness to take on a challenge to benefit more than themselves and make the ultimate sacrifice. Everlasting hugs- Joan

A wonderful poem with an ending that was quite unexpected.
The descriptive way you describe the early years of bringing up the two babies is divine, and of course they are barely out of there teens before being called to war......so very sad.
You convey the joy of motherhood and the desolation of loosing a child so very well.
A great piece of writing, well done.

Thank you for your kind and thoughtful comments on this poem, I am pleased you enjoyed, and
your empathy on unexpected ending. Has been said, "life goes on while you're making other plans'''
of course, no one can know or ever even envision a future tragedy, but it happens, and life goes
on and we move on too.
BTW..I love your unique screen name...neat play on words and verse...
    Best wishes always, Ronni

Hi, Ronni;
Thank you for sharing this wonderful tale of memories. Our children grow up all too soon, and when they are taken from us by life's challenges.

Yes indeed, patty, our children grow up so fast; and no one can ever know any further fate until it happens.

    Day is this weekend.

Ronni,

This is a most moving poem you have written
honoring your gifts that you brought into this
world and so soon lost.

All of your gurgling imagery was so very sweet,
poetic and endearing and you were so masterful...
amidst the pain and acceptance as you moved into
the reality of your unimaginable lose.

Bless you,

Linda

Nope, no tombstones. This is lovely, and heartbreaking at the same time. We always think their lives were too short, and they were. But...in reality, all lives are but a blink, then we live forever. They just get to live forever sooner. Still...doesn't help the grieving mother. So sensitive, and touching, blessings....

Ah indeed, reflections and perceptions just like a mom.....thank you!
Your unique comment, "They just get to live forever sooner" especially endearing, never heard it ever expressed
like that before; and likewise quite consoling. Will remember that from now on indeed. And yes, we do move
on, grief has its run, but joyous memories outlasts after all and beyond.
Thanks again for your empathy and perfect perception of this presentation.
    Blessings always! Ronni

This speaks the uncompromising and natural order of love and care in the heart of mothers about their children and children appreciate the volume and height of love and never feel lonesomeness; I liked.

Ronni, this is an excellent poem. I see it not only as an elegy to a lost childhood, but to children who grew up to become soldiers and died in the war. Your poem builds with one precious memory after another to embrace and remember the child the sons once were:

only sweet, delicate childhood brings
that makes a house a joyous home

cookie crumbs galore, crayon on walls
milk, juice spot trickles here and there
missing shoes, socks and britches

These detail are deeply effecting and tender. You add why a mother view such things as special tokens:

car keys in the fish bowl, gummies in hair
odd objects, strange critters in the dryer
fretted naps and stubborn bedtime routines
still these frets and innocuous battles
so happily I survived with many a sigh

Your poem then goes on to describe these boys, now men, fighting and dying in war:

off to war in far off land even sooner than set
barely a blush away from awkward teens
a few shadow whiskers shy of yet being full men

You make the reader feel the mother's loss. It is all in these details so lovingly cherished and remembered. You conclude with universal words of comfort for countless mothers who have lost their children for time immemorial:

I know there are countless mothers who've lost
as much as I have, if not even far more
no longer question the Almighty in vain
as to 'why' mine were amongst them too
I only know, in a mother's heart and love
there are no tombstones and no child
is ever truly alone....

This is a tender, graceful poem that displays love, and care. This is a solid, emotional poetry writing, and I am thrilled to have read this today.

Thank you for sharing.
