This is another very well written poem about being afraid to fall in love. I could have used that growing up in my life. After being married thirty one years it is a comfortable and loving relationship. Blessings, Teri

You've dared to write a poem about a fear many are afraid of. What if they are in love alone? Horrible--what could be worse! I think you're talking about daring to be vulnerable and that's a scary place to me. Good job. Marilyn

When one's been hurt very badly, it's no wonder they don't want to give themselves to anyone again. Faith has been betrayed, and it's not an easy thing to recover.
You dealt well with this issue.

I don't think you really believe what you have written here. But that doesn't matter. This will be recognised by many who are fearful of putting themselves under the spell of another for whatever reason. I love the middle stanza with its double rhymes. You are becoming quite the servant of formal poetry, Dip. Well done, fallin behind metre's lead.

Good morning, DIP: I was wondering if you were really afraid and then I saw your author notes, but I know that you are happily married, too. It is sad though that there are many who do feel this way. It could be due to some tragedy that happened in a bad relationship or simply because they have witnesses love going bad all of the time. It's just sad for anyone to be afraid of love or afraid to love. Love is a wonderful thing. Your poem is great too.

After my age and marriages under my belt, I am afraid and this one really hits me where I know what you are talking about. Fear makes one shy of feeling

Sometimes a fear of love is a fear of commitment and of being disappointed again. This is especially true after a bad breakup as a person promises, "I will never do that again." It can be a fear of being hurt, or being vulnerable, of taking risks to open oneself to another. These are among many reasons people fear falling in love. There is also the sex/performance aspect of it and poor body image.
Your poem of a love-avoider pulled me in. The voice is direct:
I'm afraid of how I really feel
Afraid to show real love
This person also pooh-poohs real love as a figment of the imagination. I found that the more a person trash talks love, the more love he needs. This person is crying to be hugged. His speech is a pretense to hide a real desire for connection.
In terms of structure, I think this line would work smoother if you replace one word:
For lovers never know the game
(That) people often play
Thank you, Dip, for sharing and even more for caring.
