You have a great gift for evoking emotion...that kind of lingers in the back of the mind until the reading is done!! Then all the emotion hits at once!! Great write, my friend!!

thanks for using my photo, the women of Vietnam are often over looked but they saved a lot of lives. I enjoyed our poem it has a lot of raw feelings about war, young people are the ones chosen to old people's wars because young people believe they will live forever. Well done

War can strip a person of their personality and leave behind a different agenda and can destroy our souls, war has lasting repercussions and many war veterans need tender loving care, a poignant write, love Dolly x

Very descriptive and emotional free verse for this War topic Barb. You do put us right there with him crawling through the killing fields of war. A great ending, and we wonder why they come home, changed.
Thanks for sharing,
cheers,
valda

I honor you for honoring we who have served this nation. I assure one has no thought but survival when this happens. Not a pretty picture from any perspective but war is war. Only the strong survive. Taught to have
no feelings
as he took a life-
plunging a bayonette
into soft yielding flesh.

This free verse is very explicit in the imagery. It's no wonder we have veterans with mental illness from committing terrible acts in order to follow orders and survive.. I'm glad you wrote this for the free verse club, as rhyming would have given less reader impact. Well done.

An excellent, thought-provoking poem, Barb--this is exactly why I find The Big Dump's cavalier, flippant, old-fashioned view of war so appalling. To me, war should be the LAST option, and avoided at all costs.

Bravo! If I had a six, it would be yours, but I gave out my last one this morning.
I dropped out of this club. I can't type on this and could use the other computer, but it's so big and too bright (although it is turned down as much as can be.).
