I can definitely see why this won. Tugs at the heartstrings and I love the fact that you don't have to have religious leanings to understand. Congratulations! You have a fan.

Words just can't describe what reading your poem did to me. My son spent 19 months in Iraq.
I love your poem. I am so glad she asked Baby Jesus about her daddy and He found the voice to answer her through your loving care.
I wish you all the best, and thank you for your service to our country. We remain the land of the free because of the brave. God bless you.

A very powerful poem that I found read very smoothly. I enjoyed reading your authors notes almost as much as reading your poem. Very well written. Don and Vicki.

This poem has been well recognized for its excellence, and rightly so. It's quite simply a great piece of writing, it's sad and touches the heart strings and yet ite a wonderful story.
A great tribute to a very brave man.
Well done to you.

OMG..this is heartbreaking and hopeful at the same time. If we only listen...we will hear responses from above that have to be interpreted when the time is right. This is beautiful and I feel the urge to post "What's Death? Tommy Wants to know right below it. A masterful presentation. Happy veteran's Day tomorrow. Thank you for your service.

Blessings,
brigitte

Hello Junglefighter,
You are really a great fighter, in the poetic field also!
It's a nice piece of Spiritual Poetry beautifully depicting an innocent baby's true feelings.
Impressive and matching the theme phraseology.
Smooth and captivating flow throughout from the beginning to the end with lovely rhyming scheme.
These words are particularly noteworthy:
"Oh, my God! My heart pounded, and a tear
came to mind...."
&
"...It grew quickly in my mind and then, straight
through my heart."
Marvelous!

I love the mix of a child's earnest prayer with the very emotional reaction. The spiritual quality shines through as comfort, connection and caring. The form is good, as is the pacing. This poem is very enjoyable to read with a nice photo to go along.

Your poem reminds the reader of the ripple effect of war. Some many are affected when a soldier dies, especially children. This is an excellent entry for the contest, the feeling of sadness comes through clearly in your poetic form. You have a smooth use of words and lines that is almost musical.
