I wanted to read this and bookmarked it. Finally found it today. You are my hero. I have a legal, registered gun, but I don't take it out of the house so I don't need classes. My hubby has a concealed-carry permit because he goes into Chicago sometimes. I'm just happy to know how to shoot mine (used the gunshop shooting range) and keep it near my computer, where I always sit. Just in case. It's like taking an umbrella so it won't rain, I think. :)

Thank you so much Phyllis for reading and reviewing. I liked your comment about umbrellas. It is unfortunate that society has become such that one always needs to protect one's self and what is theirs. A toast to safety. Bright blessings.

I found U. Alie you must tell me when you post, please dear one you review me loyally time after time and I feel selfish I just never go in and look please jolt me every time. Please. I know the subject of guns is dicey, because over here we are not supposed to own them. A few years a nutcase went mad and shot a heap of people including children. Our the Prime Minister declared war on guns and millions were turned in and destroyed. Of course that solved nothing, if you want a gun you will get one. Now to this funny story.
Like you Alie, I too had/have a phobia. Mine is Mobile phones. I think they are the most ignorant things ever invented. All around people head down are tapping on these damn things. So until Raymond had this little bingle with another car, I had been safe in my ignorance, "We don't need a mobile phone, etc." Anyway they say everything comes to those who wait, and my son in Melbourne decided Mum had better have one of his 'old' phones. It duly arrived and I looked at it like a snake. What do I do with it. Google it dummy. So I Googled and up came this phone Apple IPhone 5s. Well that did nothing. So I would open it look at the bright apps and close it again. Then it vibrated at me and I almost screamed in fright. I opened it but how do I make it talk, or how do I talk to it. So I closed it and left it alone. A week passed and I went to the library and timidly asked "Do you have books on IPhones?" "Sure heaps of them. Come on let's go look. Half an hour later armed with four books on mobile phones I felt I'd made significant progress into the world of Technology for one day. I am heading into week two and am none the wiser. Considering as how I only wanted it for the camera, I'm feeling justified if I don't learn how to text etc. End of mobile phones, I now have three. One came with my new Modem, One Raymond's mate gave me, which is two inches long and now this fool thing, I haven't taken a photo with it yet. If the rain ever stops I will. Love U Anne.

Awwww thank you so much Anne, well it was a contest and I wasn't supposed to tell anyone who wrote it and then I just forgot. Yikes you are certainly having an adventure with cell / mobile phones. I have one but rarely use it. Mostly it is when Jim is out working so I turn the volume up in case he calls, then I turn it down. Now I like you do like it for photos, although I have slowed down on those unless it is something I really need to share. Ahaaa several states have gun controls and the last president- Obama tried really hard to place a ban, the new one encourages gun access for responsible people, like there there is a lot of gun violence here but I will admit that the actual death toll due to guns has gone down. One will never know, anyway I know how to use one just in case but because I am not a citizen here its a long adventure to get one, so for now we have Jim's 2 which I now know how to safely use. Do take care, luv alie.

This is excellent. I took a gun course in Tennessee where I lived for 8 years and had a carry permit. Kids in that state learn gun safety at an early age and go, as a family, to the range on a regular basis. Crime rates are lower where guns are permitted. Why? Because the bad guys aren't sure who's carrying and who is not. More crime happens in "gun-free zones" because bad guys know people can't protect themselves. Responsible gun ownership is guaranteed in our Constitution and must be honored. Your story is a good one. Much luck in the contest.
I did notice one thing to fix here:
"One by one we were given the plastic gun and we had to shot (shoot) at a stationary video target." Marilyn

I think I would gladly shoot anyone who attacked my family. No hesitation. But, first, like you, I'd have to get past that feeling of dread at holding a gun. We don't have them at all in the UK, and don't see much in the way of gun crime because of it. But it someone wanted a gun badly enough I'm sure they would be able to find a way to get one. These days though, it's the driving into large groups of people, mowing them down to kill them. We live in a sad world Alie, but I'm so pleases you did this the way you have and learnt to do it properly. If you didn't know how, then you could be shooting away and not hitting a thing and he'd get you. Well done, and congratulations on passing the test. Good luck in the contest. :) Sandra x

Alie,

What a crazy world we live in -- I'm sure you've heard about the new church shooting in Texas yesterday. So tragic.

And now, people who never considered owning a gun must change their views in favor of safety, whether they like it or not.

It's certainly my hope that you never have to put this new skill to the test. Enjoyed!

Hi, Aryr

= Most interesting story.
= I would imagine an experience like your story would be quite sobering to learn about guns.

= Especially these days with so much tragedy around us.

I'm a firm believer in protection specially when it comes to the family but guns in the wrong hands cause too much destruction specially if left unattended inside your house children get into them and kill themselves or somebody else therefore the only people that should have a gun in their house are one Hunters didn't know how to handle two police officers who know how to handle them and a trained professional who's going through these courses and knows how to handle the gun and how to safely keep it locked up if there is children in the house thanks for this doctor Ricky 1024

Hi Aryr, this is a well written post on getting your concealed carry. We didn't get to use the little plastic guns in our class. I do agree about being able to handle that gun really well. Congrats on passing! It's a great accomplishment!

Thank you so much, Mel for reviewing and for the Congrats. I actually loved those little plastic guys, it was that one needed step from the real thing even though the video simulations had all the noises. We were allowed to go back in that room after we passed if we wanted to and the one guy did the pop up which reminded me of the olde west lol. I am glad you liked it.

I believe women should know how to protect themselves. I don't have a gun but my dad taught me to shoot as a kid. I'm glad you succeeded. Give yourself a pat on the back. Great job. Mary

Thank you so much for reviewing, wow I just can't imagine learning as a child, but it was a good thing since children are more open to adventures. My husband had been trying to get me to do this for years but I was reluctant. Just happened to be in the right place at the right time and a great instructor. Again thanks.
