When good birds do bad things. I recently saw where a woman was convicted of murder based on the parrot's testimony. Seems hard to believe, but according to the article, it's true.

Aww, that's so sweet and really funny too. I marvel at how so much information can be packed into such a short piece. The love shines through. This is my favorite. NG

I lost my parrot a year ago. I miss her greatly. She was around 60 years old, having belonged to my grandmother when I was a kid. She never talked, but laughed a lot. Reading your poem and seeing the pic was bittersweet. I'm sorry for your loss. I get it.

How odd that she learned those words, but she didn't know the meaning and this must have been embarrassing when you had guests? My Gran had a budgerigar and she taught it to say 'you bleeder', and 'bugger off'! We as children though it hilarious! Your words needed an explanation and now I know the history, your little poem is endearing, love Dolly x

LOL! Several friends of mine had parents, and it seems people love to teach these birds totally inappropriate things to say. It sounds like your bird thought so much of you, it only said certain phrases for you.
Good luck in the contest,

Wow! Forty years? There are some people who don't live that long.
Was Doc with you or your family that entire time? If so, I imagine everyone was quite attached to her.
When we have a pet, we never say "I own him or her." At least I don't.
They are our equals, as cherished a part of our families as is a beloved aunt or uncle. And when they die--when they go off to that big, green palm tree paradise or frisbee park in the sky, it leaves behind a gaping hole that they once filled.
Great poem, Michael. Good luck in your contest.
RIP, Doc...

Hey, Dean
We're on the same page when it comes to pets, for sure honored family members all the way. Doc was eight years old when we rescued her from a kind of boring life. Not their fault, but parrots have big brains and need LOTS of stuff going on like little kids. With all the crazy folk in my house it's perfect for a parrot. LOL
I was her favorite and the only one she called "shithole". No idea where it came from and she said it soooo sweetly. Hilarious and certainly humbling. HA! Yes, a huge hole, but somehow it doesn't stop us from getting more future heartbreakers. :))
Thanks so much. Mr. Not So Anon. lol

You have a trademark style, my friend. You just can't hide behind it, know what I mean?
The font you use, the way it is formatted and presented on the screen...
I always know it's you, heh-heh.
Good luck!

What a character! Hilarious and enjoyable five - seven - five flows well and tells an understandable story using very few words. Excellent use of artwork. Great job!

Good 5-7-5 Pet Poetry. The message is clear in a few words.
Good job.
I guess we have to be careful what we teach our parrots to say.
Good luck in the competition.
