I liked the fact that you put the bandstand into the poem. I did not care for the music part - I think you should have just written the words into the poetry versus combining the two genres. Still overall a Great Job ! Sherman541

There is only one person I know who can write a parody like this.
I'll bet the farm this is your, Mark Valentine.
Call me psychic...
I was born in 1960 so I was a bit too young to actually have experienced the things you've written about so well here. But my parents were in the prime of their lives then, so I've heard stories.
Songs like Teen Angel, Blueberry Hill, and Blue Moon were the bees knees, the cat's pajamas back then.
That's my two-cents worth.
Best of luck to you.

And I just read another contest entry (with the same title as one of my favorite Jan and Dean songs) that I would swear came from your pen (the graphics and the quality of the writing were the giveaway). I say, we forget the contest voting for this one and race for it - my 2007 Kia Sedona is surprisingly fast.

I don't own a car; I am no longer allowed to drive because of my defibrillator.
    Old age sucks!
I guess you win by default. :)

Well here I am, behind again, and another brilliant poem deserving of a six-star rating, but not going to receive it because it wouldn't promote this anyway...*sigh*... I do hope this does as well as it should in the booth! Good luck! It is marvelous.

Thanks, Dawn. That era was a bit before my time (I was born in 1959), but I love the music of that era and had to enter the contest.

Ahem... well... I was around for it (1952) but the influences of the era for me came more from my older sister - she wore bobby socks, penny loafers and danced a mean "jive". :))

I love everything about this very well written song. All of the memories you bring out are right on spot and take me back to a world I wish today's youth could know. The final lines gave my memories chills. I remember exactly where I was standing when I heard the news. This one is a winner on my hit parade. Good luck in the contest.

Thanks so much for the six. That period was actually a little before my time (I was born in 1959), but I love the music ao, writing this one was fun.

The 1950's seems so ancient in today's society and I was a baby boomer at the time. The 1950's changed everything and music really came alive from the on, love your words, love Dolly x

Thanks, Dolly> I only experienced three months of the fifties (born in October of 1959), but I love the music and a lot of the culture, so this one was fun to write.

Very well planed, very well penned and something that strikes a chord for many people who lived through the 50's, or not, can identify with. Again, I believe this work will strike a chord and resonate with many readers.
