This poem is wonderful, Rod. I can see why you won first in the contest. Congratulations. Each word is perfectly placed within your ode and the painting by David Glover is gorgeous. (Loved puce/profuse--you deserve to win just for that combo.) Your piece is worthy of a six, but I don't have one at the moment. Consider I've rated a virtual six. Marilyn

I really like your closing lines. Yes, man's creations cannot overshadows God's. It's a close to a great piece. Well done and best of luck in the contest.

Your poem reminded me of Harvest Festival time and the church service when we all used to take a grocery item and present it to charity. A cornucopia of food items were collected in front of the pulpit. A lovely poem, beautifully rhymed and full of images, Giddy

I have heard of, but have never attended, such a harvest festival at a church. A wonderful idea. Thanks so much, Giddy, for your wonderful response to my ode.

I loved the perfection of the iambic tetrameters from the outset, and was totally bowled over by the triple near-assonance of calendar/day of her. Sadly the rhyme never hit that degree of elegance again, but the poem rolled along through the autumnal countryside so well that I think this has to be worth six stars. The final jewel in the crown is the volta-like final verse, complete with its opening "But", that states a truism while almost giving the lie to it. Beautifully done.

This is a lovely, well written Ode to Autumn, Anonymous Poet.
It's also true; there are some things created by God's hands that are just too beautiful to be able to put into words.
But, as poets, we do our very best to try and convey that beauty as well as our appreciation of it.
Much as you've done so wonderfully well here.
Best of luck to you in the contest.

Haven't a clue how many rhyme patterns and what meter is deemed politically correct for a ode. Seems this tetrameter xaya shows up a lot. I agree, Autumn is the crown of the year.

Thank you for sharing my ode and for your comments. Apparently odes come in many forms, but have one rain in common: praise for their topic.

This Ode writing submission is well composed with highly descriptive words and with Autumn's flare for color. And yes, our words to describe the colors is a paultry attempt to describe a simple act of beauty at God's great hands, the original Ode maker. Nicely done. All the best in the contest! :0 GracieAnn

Thoroughly enjoying your ode to autumn as I munch on an apple. The sights, sounds and scents are unbeatable. And pass too soon. You've painted with words a lovely scene. Well done.
