Good morning again, Jen: Wow, I had to check the posting category to see if this was non-fiction or fiction. This 50-word story is written so well that Ii thought it was your truth. My heart went out to the hot dog vendor. Due to this well described rainy day, this vendor could not pay the bills resulting in the loss of sleep. It is clear that they looked forward to a big day of hot dog and snack sales at the big game. I really never realized or paid attention to this reality - that it belongs to some of those vendors who we buy those hot dogs and snacks from. It makes me want to make sure that each time I see them, from now on, I will buy something from them to help out.
Great job, Jen. I enjoyed this piece.

Thank you for your wonderful review. This is about a sad situation. One bad day can ruin someone's livelihood. Take care. Jen.

No hot dogs today for sure. That could happen in Washington state but usually events are held inside during the rainy season which is a good part of the year. But, people still buy hot dogs! No matter what! I'm so this didn't happen for this hot dog stand. The one word I didn't like was "rank" sausages. Maybe wet or soaked sausages. Rank implies to me, I lucked out not buying them had the weather been good. :)

This is moving in its simplicity. It tells a complete tale. The only problem I have is the format. Breaking it up line by line makes it read more like a poem than a story. This being a story competition, that's an issue. I like it overall, but it feels wrong for this.

This seems more like a poem than a story. It's still good, illustrating a man's livelihood being limited due to pesky weather. Well done and good luck.

It is an apt description of the consequences of a rained-out event. I wonder how fresh his merchandise was if it became putrid so quickly. Too bad he didn't have a resource like New York City Harvest that distributes food that is not utilized from things like catered events. Too many days like that, and he'll loose his business. Bills must be paid.

Dear Anonymous;
thank you for sharing your entry in the fifty-word story contest. I think you may not have read the requirements for this contest. The entry was to be prose, and not poetry.

I just looked at the criteria and it says 50 word story. I would say that is a story not poetry. Wouldn't you?

Hi, there;
I have to disagree with you on this. While what you presented is definitely a 'story within a poem,' a true story is written in prose.
Definition of prose. 1a : the ordinary language people use in speaking or writingb : a literary medium distinguished from poetry especially by its greater irregularity and variety of rhythm and its closer correspondence to the patterns of everyday speech.
efinition of poetry. 1a : metrical writing : verseb : the productions of a poet : poems. 2 : writing that formulates a concentrated imaginative awareness of experience in language chosen and arranged to create a specific emotional response through meaning, sound, and rhythm.
As you can see, the differences between poetry and prose are very different.

Thanks for explaining that. I'm sorry I'm just a novice.

I have a friend who has such a food truck,and weather is indeed the primary factor in his having a successful day. I like how you record the effect of this rainy day on even the food itself.
