This is terrific, and I can see why you won the contest. You hit the personification on target. How perfect. The artwork is well played :) Of course you got me with your iambic lines and abcb rhyme scheme. I love everything about this poem and how it follows the challenge perfectly. There, I've gone and said, "perfect" three times in this review. Well done!

Greta is thrilled and actually smiled when she saw that bright gold star.
Thank you so much for all the wondrous praise. Rod

Great artwork for the smoothness of your poem.
And personifying Great Grief was absolutely fabulous.
I particularly liked how you described her here:
If someone died, she's at the wake,
a sobbing, sympathetic peer
whose white lace hanky's always soaked,
whose heartfelt sorrow is sincere.

This is an excellent poem, Rod. Congratulations on your win in the contest. Beautifully illustrated. Lines flow well together and rhyming is smooth. The entire poem is amazing and describes a few people I have known. I'd feel sad for them, but unfortunately I think grieving is their enjoyment. Marilyn

Congratulations on the well-deserved win! This piece is so well written! I love all the imagery used to describe Greta and what she represents, especially the soaked white hanky and the swollen eyes. Such skillful use of personification, too! And, the picture goes along perfectly. Congrats again! You did a wonderful job with this poem! :)

Well done on your contest win. This was a thoroughly enjoyable ode to a woman who thrived on sadness.
Your images are vivid and I can easily picture Greta following funerals to the graveyard. We have serial mourners here too, but it is more to be seen that to grives

Thank you for personifying grief as Miss Greta. Putting a face to that extreme emotion will help me get a grip on mine. Wonderful job I really enjoyed reading your work today.

Congratulations! Well done. Very creative with the perfect artwork to accompany it. I think we have all met at one time or another a Greta in or lives.

This is one of the few contest entries that actually personifies an emotion - which is the contest's only requirement. Your character, Greta Grief, is clearly depicted, and her story well-told. The poem should do well in the vqting.
