For me it was the opposite. I was baptized as a baby. I would like to be baptized now at my own choosing.

I enjoyed reading your human approach to religion.
There is a difference between religion and believing.
Religion is an outward practice of certain ceremonies.
Believing is trusting, putting one's faith in the unseen God, based on His Word and His free gift--His Son.

A super write on faith and how it has affected your life. The ending is rather abrupt. If you have faith, God is there for you and even when thinngs look bleakest he will be there for you. You do not need to formally pray, just talk to the Lord, thank him for his generosity and pay some sort of penance ;ie; A random act of kindness, which you don't tell anyone about. Only you and God will know, and the person you helped in however small a way. Pray during the good times as well as the bad. You will come to see that you are chosen by God and your prayers WILL be answered. With all my love and Gods Blessings, Meia xx

I always find it peculiar how Jesus is depicted as being basically white & western which couldn't be further from the truth.
Faith is a good thing and all should be encouraged to have faith in something bigger than themselves, although I view faith very differently from religion, especially organised religion which is at the root of most of the world's ills, no matter the sect or denomination.
I also think your parents had the right idea. To baptise early on before a child has had a chance to live and experience the world, it is almost tantamount to indoctrination.
I remember getting into trouble with the education board here in NI when selecting my daughter's school. We looked at an integrated school and they asked me to put down what religion my child was. I said she had none as she was four and hadn't chosen yet. They told me I had to pick one... ridiculous.
I visited many different churches - see if you'd been indoctrinated at an early age then this would have been greatly discouraged. I think your parents really did you a favour to let you come to it on your own without influence.

When we settled down in Alphen a/d Rijn in the Netherlands, I met a minister in the old people's home. My adopted Granny lived there. So after some thoughts I asked if she was prepared to baptise me. She answered: 'yes, certainly'. In a way it turned out to be funny. When the female minister checked if things were OK. I heard her cursing as the only one; most elderly have hearing problems. At least that showed me she was a human being.
