I'm so far behind, I am only going back to books I want to finish up. I got to dismiss a lot of other stuff. I wish I didn't have to because I love my writers. Anyway, this is a book I want to finish. Thanks.

I'm sure your Dad told you this particular story often.

Bravo for Dusty for sticking to his guns.

This is another great chapter Brett. I like that it focused on Dusty & his 'dilemma.'

I haven't seen the word 'guzzle' in a long time. You have peaked my interest. Thanks for sharing. Jan

If he hadn't have stuck to his guns none of the rest of what happened would have occurred either.

So, I have to agree with your comment in that regard.

Glad you enjoyed this portion of my autobiography.

Your recollection of conversations is amazing, though I guess you got this from McCormack. Anyway, good story telling. It flows and certainly holds the reader's interest.
I was going to suggest you not put Dusty's last name in so much and you finally did just use his first name.
I'm glad you're getting glowing responses to your story, It must be hard to relive it in the telling. On to the next chapter. well done.

Hi Brett,

I had another wonderful time as I read more about your story.
How great it is as you tell us things about your younger years.
I'll always enjoy reading more about the true story of yourself.

Kat

This passage sounded very authentic to the sort of reaction West would get from those who knew him. You did an excellent job there, Brett.

"Say what? Since when are you, of all the people in this world, willing to sacrifice your freedom? The very freedom you hold so near and dear no one can pry it away from you with a crowbar, especially for some kid you don't even know?" McCormack demanded, "I think you need a shrink. That's what I think! You've been working too hard."

Who knows what it is that pricks a person's heart all of a sudden, at some seemingly inconvenient time? Dusty is world wise. I doubt he doesn't know what he's doing.
Great chapter, no SPAG, I think.

Switching to Dusty's POV for a segment makes a lot of sense. It gives you us a chance to show us more of his personality and to worry about what is happening to Brett, back at the Horrible Halls.

You went back??? I thought... Okay, I missed something.

I know it turns out alright, I just can't believe I missed something as important as you going back the that place.

Nice work.

I like being introduced to Dusty, and I really like him. He's my kinda' guy. He's at the 'fork in the road', the 'T-junction', a 'Big Life Changer Decision'. He talks and talks about it because he can't stop thinking about Brett. And who are the people in your life you just can't get out of your mind once you've met them - they just stay there and stay there....rollin' around...Hmmm. You can drink and drink and smoke stuff and they won't go away... and everyone else says you're crazy. "But it's MY error to make", you tell yourself, because you already know what you're gonna' do!:)
So right on target, so correct said Mr Bob Dylan. It's called Love does this to ya'. Anita.

I assume that Dusty told you about this reaction after he took you in. A skillful move to give us insight into your mentor and to pace the novel between despair and hope.
