HI Tony, I love your poem my friend...just because we grow old...and go bald...doesn't mean were dead...we just find other ways to enjoy life...the same as your tree...it may have lost it's hair...but it still stands proud...and has many reasons to live...very well written you...and I love your picture...Love Linda xxoo

This poem tells the story of the tenacity of life with a stubborn voice and great images. I loved the image of the branches of the tree reaching out like an embrace on the distant illuminated moon. that's a great metaphor for life reaching beyond death to the eternal. the leaves still clinging to life. not wanting to give up estory

Quite fabulous. Great phrasing and rare rhyme. Original and acute observations and a last line that is very powerful, yet quietly hopeful. This is one of my favorites.

Great photo Tony of the re-birth of this old tree at your front gate, holding out it's arms to the raucous cockatoos going by.
Old things surprise - so too, will I-
great ending to a lovely free verse, but that's no surprise.

An interesting statement of the theme of immortality. It seems that trees are sacred

It amazes me how some trees appear dead, but with some time, sun, and water, they sometimes find new life. Kind of like us when we grieve and feel gone from ourselves. With a change of attitude, an open heart, and humor, we can come back to life.

I loved your poignant poetic portrait of that tenacious old tree that clings to life and still has an intrinsic value to you, and it. Nicely done in a free verse ramble. Lets hope your last stanza holds true.

What a wonderful poem, Tony. Personally, I wait a couple of years before deciding a tree is actually dead. Many times it's not--especially a new transplant.
Beautifully composed and these lines are outstanding:
"Flocks of cockatoos sometimes come,
and settle on
its outstretched arms.

the straggle leaves gain strength and grow."
