I'm glad the visit went smoothly. I hope Gregory gives up on the thought of planning his own rehab. I know he means well but there are people who are better equipped to do this for him. I wish both of you well.

Comment from Phyllis Stewart
It sounds like you made serious progress. He was willing to read the material, see the counselor, and talk with you about his drug problem. Helping you write your story was beyond admitting he had a problem. It's almost as if his drug-habit was a plus then. I wonder if he will follow thru with counseling, or if he just imagined he could change... or just wanted you not to worry. In any case, he tried hard to make sure you had a reasonably nice visit. He cares about you. Now... will he care about himself?

Hi Phyllis; thank you so much for following this story. I can only hope his efforts to go into counseling are sincere - but right now, I know I did my best. Above all else, he knows he is loved,

I'm sure this took a lot of time to write and condense down the way that you have here. It is clear that your son loves you and wants to do right by you in the capacity that he has. The honesty shared between you two is something very special. I will keep him in my prayers. I know you've got heaviness mixed in the sweet moments.Try not to be discouraged...God isn't finished with him (or any of us:) yet. Thanks for sharing this very personal piece,
Blessings my Friend, AmyJo

Patty, the love you have for Gregory is evident in this piece. I know your heart aches, knowing he is still using drugs. But, his willingness to talk to you so openly was good. May you blessed day. Patricia

Hi Patricia; thank you so much for your loving review. I feel good that you could feel the love I have for him pouring through the words. I did have a good visit when I accepted what was happening - it was just some quality time with my little(?) boy,

I felt for you as I read this, Patty - but as we both know, Gregory must
want to go to rehab. He must want to get off drugs. If all the love, support
and encouragement you give him would work, it would be wonderful, but
these things never run smoothly. He knows what you want from him, and
I pray he comes round in time, for life is so precious and should be lived
to the full. He must be missing so much.
It's good that you spent quality time together - thank you for sharing this
with us, my friend.

Hi Margaret; thank you so much for your kind words of understanding. My head knows the things it should - my heart is an entirely different matter. I did enjoy the time we had together though, and I'm so glad I went.

there are no concrete answers and if that is what you went seeking, then it was doomed from the start. I think you enjoyed your visit and to see family after so long, had to be the best. He kept things clean while you were there and that is a true loving son. His honesty is to be admired. Someday I hope to be able to write about my son in law.

Hi Barb; I think I was realistic with myself, but yesterday as I read the reviews of Part I, I realized that many of the FanStorians following the story believed I would have accomplished much more. I did enjoy my time with him - which was my goal. (And he made wonderful notes to my book.)

I worked with my son in law and no I never expected you to get what you did. I expected a lot less. And the fact that he was clean and productive is a promise he has made to himself and that is a great thing.
