Congratulations on your win. I can see why. This poem in only four lines truly does communicate well with me. Excellent use of words that tie together meaning.

Lovely piece.
It took me a bit to realize this was a context I trolled.
Doesn't decorum dictate I say something polite?
Anywho, I find the form to be ridiculously arbitrary, thus I refuse to take it seriously. However, your intellectual application is impressive, so kudos.
In a way, it's hilarious. How many Mozart's of poetry are out there, who are also required to jump through such curious hoops?
Every time I think about it, I can't help but laugh. The state of modern day poetry is a prank within itself.
It's an impressive piece.
Well done.

Thanks for the wonderful and interesting review. So glad you found this short poem impressive.

Yes, the form is ridiculously arbitrary - four lines with syllable counts of 1,5,5,9. Of course, anyone can create such a form and add in however many lines and silly bells they desire. I imagine the famous poets of the past might have scoffed at these modern adventures and then tried them out to see what their imaginations would conjure up. I doubt any of the great poets would enter a contest such as this, and it would be entertaining to see Poe, Frost and Shakespeare all competing for a prize using this form. It will be interesting to see new forms created and how many of them take hold, or fly away like a kite on a windy day.

I do appreciate all your comments and the special rating! Cheers ... ;o)

This is a very up to date view of passing time. But is is true. I like the slant rhyme with time and mind.

Congratulations of the win.

It is great to have this, for time can take away many things but never who we are, so I hold on to the man I am and let go of what was,

I really liked your poem and it fulfilled the criteria perfectly. The philosophical message is one that plagues me from time to time and you have expressed it beautifully. Good luck for the contest. Susan

    Hi Danny Jock,

Thanks. We experience time in terms of events. One thing happens, and then another. Events are what gives us a sense of 'before' and a sense of 'after'. If there were no events, time would simply cease to exist. There are many ways to look at time. Our world of possible future events is large, though we always live in the 'here and now'. We do have the power to make possible things happen. Possibilities for the future rely on 'when and if'. What we are living today will become history tomorrow. Our finite minds develop a perspective with regards to the order and quality of events experienced.

It's fun to think about this stuff. Glad you liked this short poem. Appreciate your comments ... ;o) Art

Really enjoyed this very clever four line poem. The last line in particular was excellent and brought the rest of your poem perfectly together.
Have a lovely evening

There are many happenings in our lives that occupy our minds, the past we can not do much about to change that, the future is not sure. The only thing that really matters is the present.

Thanks. We do live in the 'here and now' - the present. Time is a series of events. One thing happens and then another. That gives us a sense of 'before' and a sense of 'after'. Future events and possibilities depend on 'when and if'. Events that happened before the present become history, and you're right in that we can't change that. Appreciate your comments... ;)

Exactly. And all are actually NOW...we just can't comprehend it. That's why God can be in all places, at once. There is no actual 'time' framework. Loved this! Blessings...

Thanks. We live in a very large NOW. We actually experience time as a series of events. One thing happens, and then another. There is a before and after. If there were no events, time would simply cease to exist. We experience this through our finite brains. TIME - its origin, its enigma, its history - is a mystery that is filtered through human perspective. If time had a beginning, what happened two hours before time began? It's fun to think about this stuff. In many ways, we live in an Eternal Now.

Glad you liked this poem. Appreciate your thoughts. Cheers ... ;o)

It boggles my mind. My son was explaining 'Ice Ages' to me earlier...don't even get him started about time, higher 'consciousness' 'our eternal beingness' ect...
