Meia, I'd give you a six but I'm out of them. This chilling tale (true, at that) was told through your words in an excellent manner. Your way of talking about her and talking to her had me at times believing that she had dissociative disorder, a split personality. That sometimes happens to abused children. No matter, her grisly deeds were abhorrent and I'm surprised that she is out there somewhere.

Well told, my friend.

Luna you are the one person to notice this fact, Mary did indeed suffer from disassociative disorder caused by having no loving parent to attach to in infancy. Combined with the sex abuse she was a bomb waiting to go off. Thank-you so much for your intelligent review. A movie Child of Rage features a girl with this disorder Beth Woods, a psychopathic child who grew up to become a nurse and was treated for her anger before she killed. Thanks again, kindest reagrds, Meia :)

What a gruesome story Meia. I had never heard of Mary Bell and the strangling of young children. Thank you for your author's notes to help explain the story.

Well done.

Meia,

I'm a big ID fan - a channel here in the US that focuses on Murders and mysteries. This case was featured a while back so I am familiar with it and though it baffles me, I knew about it already. Thanks for the extra notes about her release. I did know she had kids, which blows my mind, but didn't have the info about her personal state of mind.

Fascinating!

A couple of notes:

1.) Those were the (words) you wrote, and so did you hack

2.) I wish you would consider punctuating the poem as if it were a sentence in progress, instead of simply capitalizing many of the sentences. It's distracting (IMHO)

Thanks!

This is very vivid, with startling images, kept up over a measured pace through the piece. I loved the beginning. those eyes boring right through you, and that unnerving quote," I kill that I may come back" , makes you wonder what was going on in her head. the rhyme scheme creates a child like atmosphere, that lends a macabre feel to the grewsome images. well done estory

This is a sad and chilling tale and one that sends shivers down my spine. It is bad enough when a child killer is on the loose but when the killer is a child themselves... Thank you for sharing.

I enjoyed both your poem and the authors notes. She was a very mixed up girl when she killed those children and I can understand why after what her mother made her do. It's hard to get inside a child's mind when something so traumatic happens. The fact that as she grew up she did feel guilt and remorse shows she wasn't really bad. I also understand the poem now, her mother was to blame in a way. excellent, Meia. :) Sandra x

Hi Meia

Thanks for sensitively presenting this harrowing history to us. Being an Englishman, I had heard of Mary Bell but not the full details of her history. It makes for a fascinating insight into human psyches I think and hope there have been lessons learnt from this.

Thanks again for bravely sharing this! R

Meia can I ask you something? Are those author's notes of your own writing or are they from Wikipedia or one of the books prologue on her life?

This story of Mary bell is very well written although meter and rhyme (which I never give a shit about incidentally) are rather erratic. I look past all the imperfections and just enjoy the story in poem. Thankyou for sharing

Hi Meia,
This is so sad, Mary was subjected to sexual abuse as a very young child. Her mother was the evil one. She could not act normal with such an upbringing. She has suffered for her crimes and is remorseful. You have researched her story as a professional journalist. I like the well-chosen words of your poem to bring out the horror of these terrible crimes.

Well done Mary
