Premise seems intriguing and the list of characters allows insight into who they are and what they are about.
Genocide, theft of family heirlooms. Makings for much interest in the plot of the book.

I did not know that anyone was sent to Dachau on Kristallnacht. I thought that was when Jewish businesses and other buildings were vandalized. I knew Jews were also killed at the time but did no know many were sent to concentration camps at that time.

Many were sent to Dachau during Kristallnact. It was pretty much the beginning of the Holocaust. Some happened before,, though.

This sounds like a wonderful idea. You've surely done a lot of research on art theft by the Nazis and the Jewish families during WWII. Shana promises to be a fascinating character, possibly headstrong. The historical background the family roots in Germany should be interesting, too. Go ahead and let Shana have a cat. It's not so much that one would read this for entertainment or pleasure . . . maybe you intended to pique interest in your upcoming efforts to flesh out this novel, chapter by chapter . . . but for me, the great value is just in seeing how a writer that's experienced in crafting longer works starts the ball rolling. I cannot fathom how it's done, so it's nice to see the process as well as the actual finished pieces. I've always been fascinated by all kinds of artists who share their processes.

I'm intrigued by this story. For some reason, anything that deals with the Holocaust or the Nazis draws the reader into the story. Some amazing stories came out of that time. It's also hard to believe that such sheer evil exists and did during that time also.

As you know, Marilyn's Novel, "The Masterpiece"a;so revolves around a valuable Dutch painting, Nazi art thrift and art forgery. Unfortunately Marilyn will be unable to complete due to failing health. However, having taught the Diary of Anne Frank to jr high students, I am familiar with this era of history in broad terms. I find the premise interesting because the focus is on "rescuing" art as opposed to what most stories tend to focus on, which is the atrocities of concentration camps, ghettos, and the actual battles. There is still art out there that the Nazis stole that has never been recovered. I think you face a couple of big challenges. One is bridging the stories of three generations, and two is the historical accuracy. You took on a big idea. Your notes do not show how Anderson and Shana are connected. I also was confused by "former Nazi ancestors." Ancestors to whom? It is an intriguing idea, and I am sure it will begin to take on a life of its own as you write through it.

Thank you for the encouragement. I will show in the first chapter how Shana and Anderson connect, I miss wrote Nazi ancestors. I will get that corrected. 'Descendants of former Nazis who want to retain their priceless art collections.'
