Another writer on this site, Dean Kuch, deals with the same problem, but he brushes it off. It's the few crybabies that can make a fun site a pain in the ass with their whining. It's like you said,"Aren't we just a bunch of writers who want to hang out with other writers and write stuff?"
I joined this site to take advantage of all the free knowledge from the professionals on this site. I want to improve my writing and like you I'm not going any where.

I must be living with my head in the sand as I've rarely encountered the kind of viciousness you describe. I'm probably criticized all over the place but apart from some low grade reviews from newbies and cranky old farts, the majority of people here seem lied honest triers. If, and I have no reason to disbelieve you, these cheats and cockroaches are around, 'Fucking' is the appropriate word to express your angst. I'm in total agreeance on the concept of 'Honour'. It implies respect for self and others, a fundamental element of success in social communion. In a virtual environment like this, achieving this does take people like Brooke and Gungalo to lead the way. Their generous and gracious leadership was organic and never chosen. Quality writers and great people show us what this can mean. I was thrilled with your article if a little concerned about what I don't see. I hope your article makes a difference.

Lots of nonsense here and most of it no consequence in the grand scheme I suppose. I just wish people would pay more attention. But, perhaps I should pay less. LOL

It's disappointing that Tom wouldn't be more interested, but equally so that the membership who could easily nip any of this in the bud isn't interested either. I'm not surprised at the example you give. It just shocks some of the stuff that passes around here as just fine with everyone in general. Jeesh. I've been beat in contests by these recycled jokes. It's site policy that they're okay. So it isn't us or the committee, it's the site itself. I'm still mad about a contest from two years ago. LOL
Well, there's still some great people here, we just find them and huddle together. :))

I've become pretty passive, except in responses to writings such as this. It used to bother me, and I've been focus of the odd back-stabbing ... water off a duck's back now. I can't physically or mentally be here more than I am at the moment. I'm always behind, but do try to keep up with those who faithfully review me consistently and through the four years (nearly five) I've been here.
I guess I can't review enough these days for the high dollars, so I find it rare I receive a review for the money and not bothering to read ... though when I did pay high, I've received THOSE kind of reviews.... I agree cheaters/thieves, of course I see them when I read reviews of others. I avoid the 'spiters' as not worth the limited time I already have here...
I had to stop reviewing one of my favourite writers (some time ago) because, while I was 'charmed' for my reviews, I couldn't believe some of the reviews I read by this person. One in particular to a writer whose stories were faves of mine. I do find some reviews which are blunt and could be worded more considerately ... what can I say, I do explain their criticism can be very hard, especially for the more vulnerable beginner writers. Fortunately, some of these have left the site. I'm appalled though, that some fine people and excellent writers have left because of the bullying and lack of respect. I do see some people 'go off their heads' about a trivial misunderstanding ... language differences, to me, in many cases.
You've well expressed your chagrin and frustration and downright anger and disapproval of some of what goes on here. Once again, I had to stop reviewing a 'good' friend, (I thought) because they were plagiarising to move up the rankings. They were suspended for two weeks (from memory) ... I guess Tom does run this site as a business and he can get caught between a rock and a hard place. We all have freedom of speech, and we can't agree all the time.
Oh BLAH BLAH! I rave on, and really, I should have an entry in this contest... or post in protest. I'm pleased to read this and see someone who has the courage to let it all out! I can't see how anyone, except the 'guilty' who would take any offence to your essay, though some may not agree with everything you say as they haven't experienced the waffle that goes on. I don't find anything obnoxious here ... and I turned my sound switch down. LOL So pleased you're not leaving, and remain, we all need to hear what you have to say ... I do hate to see persecution of those who stand up for human rights with compassion and empathy, speak from the heart, make a stand against injustice. I'll be reading your reviews after the contest is over ... I hope NOT to read any bull shit. A great entry for the contest ... I so hope this WINS! When I can get three writers, who I think are great and are willing to respond even when my shit is only worth two cents (and that's more than its really worth), I feel like I've accomplished something. I agree with you that there is no place like Fanstory.
