Your memory is splendid! Forty years ago and you can describe the date and, in fact, your young life, in hilarious detail. Having known an actual bird named Pete, I was hoping for some preening. Alas, your Pete didn't have a preen in him beyond the outlandish clothes (ah, yes, I remember the 70s!) This delightful essay has started my day with a delish dash of nostalgia. Many thanks for sharing Pete with us.

I thought you must be an intelligent woman of impeccable literary taste, since you appreciated my FS Apology piece. So I decided to read something of yours and am glad I did. It's very funny and a little sad, IMHO. Think what you could have done with poor Parakeet had you only hung in there with him! You could have both flown...I'm not bitter, I only speak for the many of us men who had to go through experiences like this to become the ideal for someone else. (sigh) 'twas ever thus...one lady's Parakeet is another lady's Prince. Seriously? Loved it!

What a great treat to return to FanStory following the Memorial weekend to a bevy of wonderful reviews. Thank you again for the RR&R and another SIX STAR RATING!! Mr. Parakeet was so odd, he would have clipped my own awkward bird wings, and we both would have nose dived at a high rate of speed and a wandering cat would have feasted upon both of us.

Thank you so very much, Deniz22, I look forward to reading more of your work!

ok I did it; I laughed out loud regarding your mace adventure. your imagery clear and most of all thrived with irony.
your vocabulary creates a reading pleasure; bravo!

brunihilda that's a riot. psychiatrists would refer to as compartmentalizing. you know I'm going to use this.
potato truck hitting the left side - a clear vision

each one of these themes can become a stand alone story

not sure what "watering from the assault on their pupils." meant
not sure but BOZE ultra is are they condoms? thanks for the chuckles...pamela

Wow, thank you for the '6' and the incredible review! I appreciate you hanging in for the longer read plus review; I am finding those people rare on here :) To answer your references; my parents eyes were watering from the assault of his obnoxious shade of blaring green to the pupils (of their eyes). It also lended again to the mace opener. Boze ultras were referencing ear phones/plugs to drown out his daughter-in-law's sexual oversharing regarding his son.

Thank you so much, Pamela! Have a great weekend!

Hi, Mary. Very nice work on this story. I loved your humor. 'wondered if he was getting his haberdashery tips from Pat Boone.' Great line!

I imagined my sixth grade teacher, Sister Magdalene, shuttering with every clever fib but I was willing to risk a black mark on my soul to spare Pete's self esteem. ' I would suggest a comma before but.

Take care,
Russell

This would indeed be quite a dating disaster. However, seems all is well that ends well.

Besides, the handcuffs add another dimension to the tale.

Should be a good contest entry.

Thank you, Brett, for your RR&R, very much appreciated! I came in second out of two, otherwise known as
"loser" according to Brunhilda...she is amused by the fact even "losers" get a blue ribbon on FanStory! Happy Friday!

Love this! You have a knack for telling stories. I can't believe the budgie found a wife, especially one willing to not only touch him but enjoy it! Takes all kinds. :)

Thank you so much, Ioana, for your RR&R and fabulous 6!! I very much appreciate hearing about your reaction, so thank you for that. I locked my keys in the car this morning and read your review while waiting for AAA to come and save me, and read your comments on my phone. That alone made my bad day so much better :)
