I love this post. The story is very well-written. Those mines in Pennsylvania have been through several disasters. Being from Ohio, I've read about several. One your next story or poem, try your Advanced Editor on the writing page. It's fun to play with all the fonts and stuff on there.
Best of luck with your writing!
Have a great day, and God bless.

Thanks for reviewing, five stars and advice.
I will try it when I do another work.
What is about as bad as that, we have other ghost town in PA.
Once again, thanks.

The reasons for these fires that seem impossible to put out are very interesting. Thanks for sharing this information with us.
If I may suggest a couple of things:
For starters, the passage would be easier to read with double spacing between the paragraphs. A solid block of text can be quite hard to read.
While John and I were travelling along on a business trip for our company, he started talking about one the areas we passed - 'one of the areas'
"Well let me think about what I've read," John said pausing for a moment, "it was either the fire did not go out or ash/coal was put in a trash pit. - there is an extra space at the beginning of the above sentence. A comma is needed after 'Well' and I might have put a period after 'moment'
Today, the population is down to just about zero and the town was declared an eminent domain." "That is a calamity that will never be forgotten," I said as we continued down the road. - Begin a new paragraph after 'domain'
Please ignore any suggestions that you don't agree with.
Cheers. Judy

I've heard of this calamity before. It is certainly amazing that they can't put the fire out and that it will continue to burn for an indefinite period of time. Good write. Interesting and tragic. Marilyn

Thanks for taking the time to review one of my works.
Centralia is a place of disaster that people talked about for years.
Since you like art, on the website Centralia's Graffiti Highway there are drawings along the highway, look at ot when you have time.
Once again thanks.

I did look up Centralia again. Quite a nasty thing.

You selected an artwork that established the mood well for your recounting this story. I did know much about the fire and the surrounding area and appreciated learning more about the calamity. Here's to the brave firefighters- Joan

Thank you for taking the time to read this story and giving me the five stars. One thing about this site, you can learn a lot.
I just reviewed a title "Roughneck," about firefighters on a oil rig.
-
Yes, I read that post too and value lifelong learning, which we have the opportunity to experience by participating on this site. Cheers- Joan

An excellent story
I'm familiar with the story of Centralia
and the underground fires
The cause was misuse, ignorance and greed
Something that recurs throughout the world
in many different misuses of the land and water
A calamity that will not be forgotten
but sadly, likely repeated
Excellent story

Nothing is stranger than things that happen in real life. That this fire would rage for years is almost unbelievable. It's always good to learn something new, and your write is a taste of American history. Thanks for sharing it, ARTISART4U!

I found this to be a very interesting story. I had not heard of this before. I suppose if the coal in deep mines started burning it would be practically impossible to put it out

What an interesting read and something I just cannot imagine I presume this is a factual piece and so scary in the fact that nothing could be done to put out this fire. A good read and thanks for sharing.

Wow! I really enjoyed, your factual account. How horrific, for the people of the town. I can't imagine what it must have been like, to see your livelihood and home ravaged in this way.
Art work is superb, for your work
