This was excellent. I think you should have fared higher in the contest but glad you got a mention. This was suspenseful and full of terror at the end especially. great work-congratulations.

This is excellent and I would rate 6 stars if I had one to give you. So realistic I had to check to make sure this was fiction. But, then, sometimes a quality fiction piece is as believable as the real thing. Clearly expressed with timely content. Marilyn/BeasPeas

Thank you so much, Marilyn, for reviewing this story and for your great praise. I struggled to keep this one under 800 words and am very pleased you thought it could be "real." Rod

I'm happy it isn't/wasn't "real" for you. Unfortunately it was real for a lot of others who suffered through it--in the air and on the ground. Marilyn

Effortless, fast paced narrative with just enough emotional depth and pull to satisfy the readers craving to get inside this character and share his pain. The situation is complex and by the end the reader is rooting for the guy to win and have a for filling life.

Such a great writer, and covered two horrors...the story unfolded and the emotions were invoked...the thoughts were provoked. A good entry in the flash fiction contest...a mix of fiction and non-fiction...great job.

This is excellent, excellent. It brings back the terror of that flight over the Ukraine. You made me think about that split second when the passengers realized their plane was hit. You tie this in with the soldier's injuries:

"Every night for months now the same horrendous dream.

And always . . . we scream together."

This is an exceptional piece of flash fiction that goes deep and feels real. Thank you for sharing. I wish you success in the contest.

You wrote this so well that it doesn't feel like fiction. The detail and description of everything around this character is remarkable. I think there is a misspell in the line, "climbled" the stairs." Change to climbed. All he best in the contest and if we are able to vote, I will be doing so. -Bill

Well done, excellent job describing several very scary events. According to my word processor count there are 828 words. It may be helpful to double check that it falls under the 800 word limit. I felt like the character had faced some very scary experiences.

Thank you for sharing my story and your concern about word count. I used Apple's Pages which shows my word count is 793.

There was a lot of Aussies on that flight, I wrote a poem called MH17, buried in my portfolio, (you could have used it in the story of you'd wished!) trying to capture the tragic story for those that cannot testify for the selves. Well done, even though this was fiction, one could feel the palpable emotion attached to the imaginative story, using an actual event to enliven the work, well done, scribed with pathos, you captured the essence of emotion in your tale! Well done, great entry, good luck, blessings, Roy
