Hello Possum, Thanks for dropping in; not a happy story/poem but know the truth and the truth shall set you free - 30.000 people were burnt at the stake in the days of the Reformation. Lots of Luv and a big hug too! ;-) XX K.

Hello Kay,

Your story poems are always a pleasure to read. Good rhyming couplets and a sad narrative from a tragic slice of history.

You made this horrible event very personal, told through the voice a young child.

Best wishes for the contest, my dear.

Love,

Sonali

One could change in names of Catholics and Huguenots to ISIS and Kurdish or Absiniy (? sp) and your world would have the same thing whether recanting faith or being burned at the stake. Who is to be brave in the light of that history. It simply happens again and again. There were mercenaries then and now. Trump advocates a mercenary army to fight a mercenary army with a splurge of faith against our faith - and who is Trump? Good poetics, rhyme, rhythm and message. The day should remind us what is going on around us. I am getting absent minded . Take care, Regards and love Alan

Ain't nothin' wrong with your grey matter! We haven't learnt much, lopping off heads instead of a BBQ. At least you knew what I was talking about! Some Americans didn't know what the Reformation was about? Thank you dear friend Alan. Love, Kay.

How horrific to cruelly burn other people
due to religion. So sad that we separate
ourselves from God in the name of God. How
can this be justified? Thank you for reminder
of those times in history. One of so many
terrible disputes.

Thank you poetadeu. The Reformation claimed 30,000 lives in England and France. All because Henry V111 wanted a divorce, Catholic church refused, Henry began the Church of England and heretics (non catholic Huguenots)were burned at the stake. Thanks, Kay.

    Henry V111 was a despot, lecher, murderer and thought nothing of killing innocent people. He must be toasting marshmallows in hell now! :-}

This is an excellent historical poem that captures well the slaughter of innocents. Your lines are smooth and you have a smooth rhyming of words. The reader feels for Michael, his loss of family and his horrible death.

Excellent work with this one. This is really so sad and yet it is amazing how many Catholics refuse to believe anything bad was ever done in the name of their faith. I am an ex-Catholic so I remember what I was taught in school. No mention of any of the atrocities...so easy to just ignore.

The Reformation brought about 30,000 Huguenots burned at the stake. Nowadays, the RC church is crumbling. Cheers, Kay.,

How very wicked they were, that is a lot of people to die for having a different religion. Very informative poem with vivid imagery and good use of rhyming. This captures the essence of faith well, they would die for their religion. Good luck in the contest. faye

Thank you Faye. Henry V111 wanted a divorce and the Catholic religion forbad it. So he began his own religion - Church of England. Over the years, 30,000 Huguenots died in the flames. Blessings, Kay.

This is a well written poem about history. This is one fact that I never knew. It is interesting because of that fact. It held my attention extremely well because of the way you told the story in verses. It was a pleasure to read, my friend. Best wishes to you.

Always with respect,

Wow..Hi Aussie...A harrowing tribute to commemorate St. Bartholomew's massacre. As a Catholic, I can't believe people could such things, but they did. I really enjoyed the melody of your poem. The poor boy Michael having been burned in the end. This was profound with no happy ending. I loved your poem because I know it effectively captures a part of history as if reading a part of the bible. Cheers.

Benjamin, Thank you for reading. Henry V111 broke with the Catholic church because he couldn't get a divorce as a Catholic. Those who chose to stay with their faith were burned at the stake. In that time line, 30,000 were slaughtered. Cheers, Kay.
