Great testament to a troubled man, Michael. You did a good job of describing him as a whole person: body, mind, and spirit. I like that you could interject some humor into this situation: liver that would answer, "yes" to "what am I , chopped liver"? thanks for a thought provoking read. Caroline

I love the picture. I love the story. I know the obligation you feel. Some people give up long before their body does. Some choose alcohol as a suicide drug. It can take years to kill. The persons unhappiness makes them miserable to be around. Most tend to die with the living thinking" Well, that is one less drunk". You showed some of the good in Bob. He was a person, not just another drunk. Great work.

I think it was a very nice gesture on your part, it is good to know that he has been remembered, seeing as he had no family that anyone knew of. Well expressed feelings and well narrated tribute to him. Good luck in the contest. Faye

Hi Mikey,
nah, couldn't find it that spider web you call a profile... Uncle Earl is going to have to wait... but I'm not giving up... just retreating to keep my gun-powder dry for another day.

Love the way you told this story... you do have a magic way with words brother... no frills, no whistles... just candor from a man compelled not to see a friend/client check out with nothing but a fizzle... your obligatory heart did a great thing here... you are definitely the man to call in a situation...' the go to man'

Because of you, Bob has had a good send off with an audience that appreciates his worth... well done Brother!
I'm sure Bob had his reasons.

With our thoughts we create,
some peace,
James.

I'm so happy with the reception for this little tribute. This is truly the place where Bob would get a few nods of understanding. What a wonderful review. I just happened to see this before I hit the lights! To sleep under a blanket of stars with a smile. Who could ask for more. I did the gold highlight thing to the piece I think you're looking for. It should be number one in my profile if it's the one I think it is. :) Thank you very much and Bob thanks you too. mikey

Absolutely right dear friend. A tribute is just that . a time of remembering when no one else will. I think of my grandparents and wonder who they were and what they did.
A small sentence is better than letting them go withoug

Would you please consider this a 5 1/2? It's not the most lyrical or beautiful of the things you've written, but the fact that you've written it, and memorialized this man, whose passing probably won't be memorialized in any other way, says a great deal about you, to me. I commend you for this piece. Bob was lucky in one thing in his life. He had you, at the end to write this testament to his life and his place in the world. Bless you for doing that.

Interesting Michael. We all stop and philosophise when someone we know dies. I suppose it is natural. We wonder about our own demise. When we cease to be. Something we don't like to think about. Not really! You did a good job telling about Bob. Sad, his story. We all have known a Bob. The Bob I knew was named Jack. Well done. :<) Nancy

This was just plain great. I spent two years in a Charge nurse in a Psych and Rehab hospital and you nailed everything from the guy calling you instead of 911 (emergencies are not scripted) to that frustration of watching someone squeeze the life out of themselves for seemingly no reason. I'm sure that Bob enjoyed your written send off but feel that you gained more than he did in the writing.

Well, at least Bob doesn't have a thing to worry about any more. His battle is over, and in doing so, have given you inspiration. His last good act. This is very well done.
Good luck.
Christelle.
