A compelling, bleak tale about that thing, the dark power of suggestion buried inside all of us. Each word is razor sharp. The ending contains enough charge we our blown away by the time we reach the last period. Brilliant story. Brilliant new horror star. I hope you will keep this in your writer's pocket and pull it out every now and then.

Powerful and truthful: "I don't put anything new in your mind. I only remind you of what is already there..." I never read an essay from the devil's point of view. Fresh and provocative with that veiled help for advice at the end.

This Create a New Horror Star writing prompt entry is superb in setting, drama, and conclusion. The premise is one which I can agree. Evil lurks to do its deeds mostly in our minds. Original with great depiction of the inner thoughts as they play out into disaster and destruction. Has a warning to be heeded. Well done. All the best in the contest. :0 GracieAnn

Hi Mystery Writer now unveiled

I'm reviewing now, though I did read and vote in time. I really liked the creative concept here. Very well written in the horror genre. A monster not focused on much yet always prevalent within. They do their dirty work and always get away with the crime. Oh so evil. Then yes, we do have free will and we don't have to listen. Great story Mikey. A second to that evil minded Dean Kutch ... well done. :))) Sometimes his mind goes where no other dare to go. lol Well done to you both. Hugs - Lovi xoxo

What fun is there in ruining the life of a child? Well, let's see...you destroy their potential, their future, any memories they might have acquired, and wipe away any legacy they may have left behind had they been permitted to exist normally -- like having children of their own, for instance. At least, that's what you're shootin' for if you're truly evil.

This...evil knew how it worked. It badgered Janice enough until she began hitting the sauce again, then insinuated she wipe out most of her and Bradford's personal family tree in one fell swoop -- POW!. Fun, gun and run...why not?

As for visiting me, I'm afraid it's too late. I would welcome it into the fold, however. You can never have enough fiends friends.

Nicely done. A terror tale that actually happens, with a "monster" we are all too familiar with.

Great story telling! Moved swiftly and the narrator's voice was indeed chilling and convincing. Don't want to get into the philosophical side of the premise, but your POV certainly makes a provocative point. I really like the fresh slant of this piece. Loren

The woman who torched her newborn is getting press today. Michael Brown
stole cigars and jumped at a cop. This isn't a new monster. Like the 1960s
Chickenman he's everywhere, he's everywhere...excellent unmasking...

Honestly, there is always that evil voice telling me evil things. Fortunately, the good voice keeps telling me how God loves me and wants the best for me. You're right, we are given free will. I am more than glad the good voice is stronger inside me for it always win! c", mae

Yes! Very few people caught that. I concentrated on the "monster" of course for the contest, but I hinted that there are other spirits as well. You got exactly what I meant! It does ALWAYS win. Blessings.

At least this story gave me something tangible to work with. An evil spirit, the Devil's advocate. So now we have an overworked Yuppie husband who is too busy for his family. He is too busy providing them with all of the niceties of life and not enough of listening to their inner needs. He really doesn't seem to have any nasty qualities... he's just too preoccupied within the confines of his own mind. This new husband horror star lives too close to home. I prefer to stick with our old traditional horror stars... we know where they are coming from. Good luck...
