Oh, I enjoyed this story immensely! I'm not sure about the place where you digress to relate the story of Tikki, though - perhaps there needs to be a little more of a tie-in? Something along the lines of continuing what you started by saying your mind wanted to drift to your own memories, but what you'd been reading was about his life, not yours. Here's just an example (though I'm sure you could do much better): "...the setting was of his life, not mine, though what I'd read surely excited some fond memories for me, even ones that were battles fought at home. For example, one weekend..."

Best of luck with this wonderful entry, Ben - it's touching and truly well-written, in my opinion.

I have been kicked about needing editing, but I do this through Ginger editing service and received a thumbs up. I suppose it is the style they fuss about. . Oh well. I thank you much for your kind review. Blessings to you.

I don't see anything that I would 'kick' about - I LOVED it! I mentioned that one plot 'nit' (I thought) only because it seems a slight digression from the main theme (to me) and needs just a tiny nudge to fit the story. Otherwise, it's brilliant entertainment, I think, and a lovely tribute.

we share our experiences with other people. meanings have true meanings in our past, present, and future. our meanings are our friendship toward another person. your meaning toward your friendship with another person was admirably to read. your story was well written and well presented. i enjoyed n reading your story. thanks for the read. "your so vein" means mood or humor.

I read some of the other reviews and decided that the story should be the focus and not any issues I may have with the writing or editing. I'm a life-long history student and love this stuff. Thanks for sharing and good luck in the contest, Brent.

Sorry I was short in response , I ran the write through my editor "Ginger" , a sofe ware that does a pretty good job, but have known to screw up occcansionally . I will check it out again. Please forgive me for being short, perhaps irude. Just got word about the time I was reading your review, my brther is in the hospital, doing no good.

Ben: I am a fan of yours. I always like what you write. This wasn't about Dutch and the KKK as I expected but was nicely surprised with this subject matter. Even though Vietnam was the war of my generation, WWII still holds such fascination for me. War on two fronts, Europe and the South Pacific was a lot of war going on at one time. Hitler and his murderers still fascinate me although their mass murdering still creeps me out. Reading about the guys in the air (my father was an engineer on a B something big bomber)and fighting other planes which seemed so inadequate in those days compared to our fighting jets today, seems so surreal. That fact that many lived to tell about their experiences amazes and intrigues me. I enjoyed reading this story about your Captain. Linda

Due to the trouble with Ferguson and racial tension going on now, I thought to hold off on posting my novel until things settle down. I will continue the write just as soon as things settled down among the colored people. I need to address my script writing for now while that is settling. It will be a few weeks or just days perhaps. Blessings to you for your kind support.

Ben: may I just 'dump' my opinion of Ferguson upon you? I'm a bit afraid to actually write and post it. Emotions are too high right now.

The young man killed was a 260 pound boy apparently a bully as he bullied the store owner to steal some cigars which are used to smoke dope. The policeman insists that the boy was aggressive and much larger than him and had evil in his eyes; a scary combination. I believe all of that. He was not an innocent little boy with only good intentions that day like his mother wants us to believe . . . she is his mother and that is her right, her baby boy. Where I think the problem started was when the policeman decided to shoot him. Was he not able to use a stun gun to stop this boy? Would it not have worked on a boy his size? Were they too close in proximity to each other to use it? Did the cop not have one? Did the cop just overreact and use too much force? I have so many questions yet to have answers for. I have a problem with the fact that the boy was shot and killed and he did not have a weapon except his size. If the cop was inside his vehicle, why didn't he back up the vehicle to give himself some space between he and this aggressive appearing youth? I suppose we will never know because we were not there and did not see exactly what happened. Those who report seeing the situation all have a different story and they all make the boy look as innocent as a newborn babe. O.K., thanks Ben for letting me ventilate. LOL Linda

My author friend, Clayton E. Fisher's book "Hooked" I found this war story fascinating and read every word you wrote. How sad to lose a true friend while you weren't aware of his death. Well done.

What a wonderful story of friendship and some great background on one of Americas many unsung heroes. It is through stories like this that they are remembered. It is one great thing about all of this technology I suppose, we are able to preserve these words virtually forever. I appreciate your modesty on behalf of Tikki, but I have no doubt that every word is true and not the least bit exaggerated! Enjoyed this immensely. mikey

Thank you for writing this and posting. It's always a sad day when a WWl soldier dies. If ever there was a needed war, it was that one, because they were really fighting for world freedom and democracy. God bless him and you.
