What a delightful, well-told story. Hints of legends, traditions, unwelcomed parental expectations, good wishes from desperate friends and an unattractive girl who is content with her place in life all combined to give us some smiles in this tale. Good job.

Being of Irish decent, I really liked this story. It flows well, and has strong characters. The plot is well developed.

That was lovely! I really enjoyed this story. I knew that a woman could propose if the year had the 29th February in it, but didn't know about the gift she could ask for if she was refused. How good that could be. This was well written and a real pleasure to read. Good luck in the contest.xsx Sandra

What a brilliant story! I loved the humour and appreciated it since I'm of Irish stock, but Flora is fully-painted and her humiliation shone through in counterpoint. A thoroughly enjoyable tale.

What a lovely story. A touch of the Irish through and through here. This was a pleasure to read. Great strong characters, good plot and naturally the love of the leprechauns and the magic of the fairies. I sort of guessed she may marry the glover but I didn't realised that Peg o'the side was his grandmother. Brilliant story and an excellent read. Genya

Peg O' the Sidhe is a smart fairy grandma. We humans have a tendency to grow close to the familiar, not just the beautiful. We are creatures of habit, more so than the adventurists that we'd like for everyone to believe. Thanks for the pleasure of reading your outstanding little story. :-)

I loved this story. Exactly the kind I enjoy the most. Somewhere I saw one little nit. A small matter of spacing, it was. (See, you've got me talking like an Irishwoman.) I was so intrigued by your story tho, that I forget where that was. Truly an exceptional story here. I did figure out that she would marry the glover early on, but that was no problem as I really enjoyed the vernacular and the playing out of the story. Excellent.

Thanks, Janalma.I'm glad you enjoyed the story. I had a lot of fun writing it. I'm pleased you saw she'd marry the glover. Up until half way through I quite thought she'd marry the cow-vendor. That was before I realised he had eleven children.

Your reply made me laugh. That old muse we've got sure can keep us guessing. We never know until the story's done, just what is going to happen.

That was a fun story, full of humour and whimsy. I like the inclusion of the leprechauns. Well narrated, well drawn characters and great dialogue. Most enjoyable. faye

What a fantastic story, so well considered in all aspects. I really enjoyed the character developments and the way it meandered along, patiently, building on events as they went. Apple Mary was a great character (smart), and generous in her efforts for Flora. Also liked Flora's eventual kind dealings with Sean. Fantasy Land or not, the circumstances could be readily applied to real life situations. Brilliant conclusion. If I could offer a sixer, I would. Very well done. JJ

Thanks, Jenna. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I wrote it for an anthology called KEEPSAKES, and ran it at FS to see if any eagle eyed reviewer spotted any inconsistencies.
