I wish it was only the immigration system that was broken. Hopefully, our future leaders will pay more attention to the constitution.

Once again you address a most thought-provoking topic, and generally, I agree, although you're right - there's much opposition when such opinions are voiced.

But enough about the subject matter - I found one small nit only: "Before you cry it's racism, you idiot." is not a complete sentence. If I may offer my opinion as to its content as well - insults seldom manage to do more than turn people away. If you hope to persaude any of these folk, far better the topic is addressed in the manner you use throughout (frank and honest belief) without the slap in the face (although many deserve it, perhaps...) :0)

Excellent!

LOL, Thank you. That line was referring to me. The idiot is me, in direct address. You're right, it is not a complete sentence.

You and I are always on the same wavelength when it comes to this topic. You seem just as frustrated with the unwillingness of people to see just what is happening in this country when it comes to immigration. I've told you before my family had to jump through hoops to get here and I don't find it appealing at all that they just keep making it easier and easier for people to come here illegally.
This is an excellently written essay with support in the way of helpful links.
Thanks for taking the time to write, my friend.

I'm no politician and no very little about it but you have a pretty good argument here! From the little bit I know, it does seem like the high up officials get to make the decisions instead of "the people". I also like your point of how it is the person making the mistake that is at fault, not shoving the blame on something else. It definitely makes the big point, that the high up people shouldn't blame others, more effective.

Suggestions for change:
Will they sit in tears, asking how did this happen?
put quotations around your question.

Is it so hard to understand why some republicans do not want a repeat, considering that it did not solve the problem before.
needs a question mark

I love questions in a convincing article. In fact in about any writing. Somehow they invite the reader to think on their own a bit, and help capture attention. But I think in this you overdid it just a little bit. I think your argument would be a little more powerful if you would change of few of your questions to statements.

"This term has always bothered me." This sentence seemed a little out of place to me, doesn't flow with the rest of the paragraph and the paragraph has the exact same meaning without it.

Now for all my comments I actually do think it was pretty well written! :-)

I read this with an open mind knowing you are correct in various points. Letting the immigrants to become citizens is nothing but ponds of control for Hillery Clinton thinking for the next President. Breaking the law, what law? The laws of the land are for those who get caught and prosecuted. Never people like Obama, Charlie R. And the Clintons who should be serving time for White Water in Arkansas.
My concern is H.C. Becoming the next commander Chief. God help us all. Remember Bengazzi?

I, personally, could not a agree with you more. We have become a country of mealy-mouthed and spineless, afraid to stand and be heard. I'm all for helping improve the lives of everyone we can, but is this the answer? Not to me. Great job. :-)

Whatever President Obama does or doesn't do, whether he is the first on not, he is the FIRST BLACK PRESIDENT. The first black man to sleep in the white man's house. In the white man's bed. That is the crux of the issue. The politics is just a cover up.

Wow, Okay, I didn't mean to go there...
Being a black man, I know that doesn't make everything one does right, nor should it mean we get a pass when we do wrong. Most blacks just want to be seen and treated as equals. No better, no worse, not special, just the same. Not singled out as the first black this or that, just seen as a person only.

When people treat us differently, and do not hold us responsible as you would anyone else bad things happen.

I think as Americans are watching Tv this morning, they see what can happen when you don't hold a group responsible for so long

I understand where you are coming from. Truly.
Hell, I am a loud mouthed left wing Jew Bitch Social Worker. No, I am not rich, blah blah.
Yes, I am smart. Ha ha. But the fact is, we have a history, our people, and that is the truth. Yes, I am rather Freudian. Sorry, but it all comes down to power. Men and power. Anything that threatens the status quo, is something to fear, to hate, to get rid of. The way you or I want to be treated has no merit in this theater of the absurd. Yes, I agree, some one has to be responsible. However so do the authorities. The anger might be misplaced and misspent at this moment, but it is not without cause. It is the same with Israel. You can't keep throwing shit at a people and not expect them to start smelling eventually.

Hi. A strong and perhaps brave write. You have made clear points and done so with out flinching.

I am not American. Every country has the same problems. It would seem that the grass is always greener.
I tried legally three times to get into the U.S. And three times was refused for fairly odd reasons, even after securing a job, that could prove no American wanted. Go figure.

In the end I am glad not to have been given entry. I found a much better life, with medical, in another country.

The problem actually, I think, is people make money off the illegals. The hotel and hospitality industry could not run without very, very cheap labour. I am betting that no one really wants to look at who washes the sheets at 4 Star and up hotels.

So...again, it boils down to money, and to big business, who will say ship the illegals out, but still use them.
Is the immigration system broken or is the actual economic set up broken?

Me...I go for the greed of money and the exploitation of a low paid cheap workers--this is all over the developed nations, not just America. Just saying...

I hope you do not mind my input.

You have a point about it being illegal, and that is a good one. But, do children suffer the sins of their fathers?

I like to read the reviews on such an essay as this. I assume your research is thorough, and your conclusions seem sound. I guess you fixed the spags, I didn't see them.

You are such a voice of reason. You are singing my tune, but Obama doesn't care...he is poking the Republicans with a stick, hoping that they will take the bait and do something stupider. He uses only the facts/emotional appeal that furthers his agenda. He doesn't square his facts with the truth or the big picture. And yes, we elected the Republicans to STOP Obama's agenda, not to acquiesce to his bad ideas....the house did not pass the senate bill because it was bad law....that's why we have two legislative bodies. Thanks again for your commentary...it is spot-on and well written.
