So very true. Something I have thought myself. You have put it perfectly to verse. Beautiful personification. I should copy this and show it to people the next time they have a contest for it. They DON'T seem to know what it is here. (whine, whine...) Excellent everything and I can't even find a word that I would suggest to improve it. mikey

Hi Brooke
I enjoyed your poem. It contains a great message for nobodies.
I love the personification of the drop of rain and the sea. The drop is feeling like a nobody... unimportant, overlooked perhaps.
"I'm but a tiny drop of rain,
and you, the sea so grand,
whose waves can range for miles and miles
and rage at your command." ... I like the pairing of "range/rage"
But the sea is like a wise ruler, knowing his very existence depends on tiny drops.
"I'm but the sea, who would have been
a parched and endless plain
if I had not received my life
from tiny drops of rain.

You may be but one tiny drop
and I the mighty sea,
but if it weren't for you, my friend,
then I would never be." ... the sea is humble. Gotta love that.
You can contemplate this on so many levels.
What about today's pop star, like Taylor Swift, for example? She'd be just another tinkling cymbal if not for her fans. She wouldn't have wealth or fame. Every single fan counts.
What about your President or my Prime Minister, or any other elected government official? Without each individual voter, what would they be doing?
What about a poet? Do they become published and famous without readers?
A lesson for the nobodies, and also for the somebodies.
Nicely penned!
your fan,
Kimbob

Very nicely employed metaphor during this voting cycle!
Each drop of rain, each vote that's cast builds the superstructure
that buoys civilization and nourishes our sense of community. . .

I suspect that is not the inspiration you were drawing on -
but what can I say. . .that's the frame of mind I was in when
I read it :-)

Enjoyed it. . .in my own warped way ;-)

Thanks so much, Leineco :-) It isn't what I was thinking of at the time, but I love that about poetry - that we each bring our own experience and perspectives to what we read, and the results are often just as fascinating as the thoughts the poet was thinking :-) Brooke

Brooke, such a lovely take on friendship with this poem about the raindrops and the endless ocean. It is so true that our friends make up who we are! My life would be SO bland and pale without the countless "rain-drop" souls He has blessed me with as friends!

Blessings!
Marsha

Presenting this in the form of conversation, helps personalize it. It reminds us that if we feel we are insignificant, we must remember that we are all part of a greater whole, and are therefore indispensable.

Isn't it amazing that poetry can be a vehicle for such profound messages.

Ah, with your beautifully worded
quatrains you have captured the
the beauty of the sea that indeed
if it had not been for tiny drops
of rain, there would only be a
parched and endless plain.
Well done

The poem is beautiful, as is the picture. There are many tiny things in life which in unison are part of a larger picture. Thank God for those tiny drops of rain! Evi

Profoundly written with beautiful images. The sea might just be the source of all life and so we are fed an uncanny metaphor. It all seems so deceptively simple. -Ekim777

Hi Brooke - Good personification of both the sea and the drop of rain. Very profound and you have shown how necessary each is to the other. This message could apply in many situations in life, namely, 'Every little helps'. A thoughtful write in good abcb rhyme. Warm regards Dorothy x

Hello Brooke,
Thought provoking charming piece of poetry beautifully depicting equality in power of tiny rain-drops and the mighty sea!
Wording is simple, impressive and perfectly matching with the theme.
Smooth flow with lovely rhyming scheme and lively imagery.
The last stanza is particularly noteworthy.
