I thought this poem was very cute in a four year old perspective, it pretty much sounds like its coming from a young kid when they think a monster is in the closet. I absolutely love the title, its perfect for this poem.

That is such an awesome story of what you did in your author notes.
To relieve a child of their fears is so inspirational.
The poem is so cute as well. I would like to read it to my grandchildren one day. Thanks for sharing, and I see you won the contest. Good on you!

Congratulations on your most deserved win. Telling a story is one thing, telling it in a poetic form with rhyme is quite the challenge. There is a sincerity to this as well. Best wishes.

this is an excellent write, neonwoman, you did an excellent job writing this poem, I love the faith of the child that Jesus will kick the monster to the curb. a friend of mine said her grandson was scared of the dark and she always told him that Jesus was there with him so he didn't have to worry. one time it grew dark and stormy. he kept asking for the light to be cut on. she said Nicholas, Jesus is right beside you. He answered, Jesus said He wants the light on.

Aw what a cute poem!! I could picture the little child feeling scared of the 'monster' behind the door and having faith in Jesus to send it away. Well done on your win.

An absolutely lovely poem. I understand why it
was the winner. My congratulations!!!
To write this from a child's point of view
was great! I'm sure any four year old would
feel this way, but his faith in Jesus helped
him overcome his fear.

"Excuse me mister monster" is a child's contest poem winner poetry. No wonder this poem won the contest as it is written so nicely with such simple words and yet it is a class in its own. A reader can visualize the picture while reading the poem.

A very brave and confident little tike who learns the challenge of facing his fears with spiritual confidence. I remember similar processes with my four children, way back when. Your simple rhymes were well placed and brought out your clever conclusion with style.
Thanks for writing.
