Dear Dean, This is one of the best senryus I think I have ever read. It is so full of truth. I can see why you won Dean. Great job, Shirley

Dean you said it well.. anyone who reads this and doesn't stop to think for a moment or two about their own pity parties has a serious problem. Thanks for sharing this with us..

So true & so well said in this senryu. What do anyone of us really have to complain about except for a few misunderstandings & hurt feelings, or likes & dislikes, unnecessary wants or needs, when compared to the suffering of innocent children who have only begun life's journey by having to suffer for the many, or for many children not even having the chance to live. In faith we believe that legitimate suffering is not for naught.

Congratulations in winning the contest, friend Dean. The smiles in those children for sure shame me about some of my headaches. A perfect tribute to looking at a glass half full.

Suffering children do change our perspective on what is important in life. Your senryu form brings forth emotions and feelings and reminds the reader on the importance of finding a cure for cancer. Congrats on winning the contest.

A potent work for sure! The photo, married to the words, render this one of the strongest poems I have read in some time. I like the starkness of the words; they give pause and direction to those of us humanly caught up in the pettiness of every day living.

So true!!! Many of us feel sorry for ourselves but we forget all about that when we are faced with images of ill children. You have conveyed your message well Dean.

Hello Dean Kuch, Contest Winner,
Lovely piece of poetry in the form of 'Senryu' meeting all the desired norms and beautifully depicting its theme!
Wording is simple as well as impressive.
Picture complements the theme and enhances its beauty.
CONGRATULATIONS!

How right you are, and how kind and observant to say so, Deano.
Some idiots think a zit on their nose is the end of the world - if only they knew and were grateful for what they had in comparison to these brave and smiling children.
Best wishes, Ray

Three short lines capture a wonderfully ironic observation. Of course that cheeky happy smile speaks of a child's natural sense of hope. And yes, our pity washes away, insignificant compared to the smile. Congratulations on your well deserved win.
