this is an absolutely sweet little verse with a very good message .the way to the top is by sheer hard work and patience .Slow and steady wins the race.

I wonder how many of your readers had a sense of deja vu seeing this picture. I saw myself in the little kind of passageway with shelves between two bedrooms in a house from when I was about four. I remember climbing those shelves. No good reason either. Great little piece. A slice of life with a good message too. mikey

There is a great moral in this poem. One rung at a time, one step at a time. A valuable lesson for kids that what's worth having involves effort and perseverence. Some adults could use that moral saying too! Who said 'life was easy?' Well done, Brooke.

Hi Brooke,
Boy, ain't it the truth, (pardon my English, lol), it's something we figure out, as we grow, the strength to persevere comes from within.
The picture portrays your verse with perfection. Sawyer will make it to the top, without help from mom or dad, and find he is able to master certain situations by himself. Ah, they grow up so quickly!
Loved this one for its simplicity and depth...well done!
Hope you're having a great weekend, Bill

This single solidly rhymed quatrain presents a wise message in entertaining poetic fashion. Knowing children's behavior, it may not be heeded.
Nice work!

Isn't that the way with life; one rung at a time. I enjoyed reading your cute poem, and of course, I always enjoy seeing Sawyer.

Excellent poem and accompanying picture. The last two lines:
The only ticket to the top
comes one rung at a time.
were my favorite and ring true for all of life's endeavors. Thanks for sharing this poem with us.

I suppose you mean there's no White Knight to save us from all our troubles, either. *sigh* A great rhymed lesson on the necessity of self-reliance, Brooke. Love it. :) nancy

You have said it all in such a sweet, succinct way. Two of the most important lessons we can teach our kids are patience and perseverance. Both words almost as long as your entire poem. Thanks for sharing Sawyer with us.

So true, so true, it can not only be applied to Sawyer, but it could be applied to us all here at Fan. One wrung at a time as we climb toward that goal of being the writer that we dream of. Wonderful thoughts in a great poem, Brooke.
