Congratulations on your work being recognized and on being named one of the all time best. This was a wonderful piece of work that focused on Poe. I've always loved his work. Thanks for sharing.

I like your 'midnight hour' story about Edgar Alan Poe. Was he bipolar? I think many artists are. Is in that 'manic' stage that genius can be found. I am unfortunate to have bipolar disease and it is very hard to live with it. I am not genius, that is for sure but I know that when I feel manic is the most creative time I had. I take medication now so I haven't had a manic episode in years but I do miss them sometimes. Great job Dean! ps. Have you heard of a song by Jimmi Hendrix called 'burning the midnight oil' ? It is a good song.

Some think he was manic depressive, Gypsy, especially after his thirteen-year-old wife (and cousin too, by the way) died from tuberculosis. I have heard that song, and I do like it very much. I really like Hendrix's music all together. The Watchtower, Hey Joe, and Purple Haze are some of my favorites.
Thanks for digging this one up and offering me your feedback on it. I really appreciate that!

Wow. I thought there were six stars. Not only a tribute to Poe, but him your inspiration. My favorite line: "each word was laced by one embraced by forces none could see". Seven stresses each line, amazing rhythm, excellent rhyme, the flow divine. I have one thought, how dare I!, stanza 7 last line; nothing technically wrong; just feel it doesn't measure up to ALL the others. Enjoyed this amazing poem so much. Loretta

Thanks so much for resurrecting this and having a go at it, Loretta. I sincerely appreciate that. I will have a gander at the line in question. I may be able to do something else with it.

    Thanks again!

Excellent, you have truly captured the spirit and writings of the great master Poe. I look forward to reading many more of poems. I tip my hat to you, and will be following you. Not in a creepy, stalker kind of way. Continued success.

Dean you always have the absolute best graphics...more to go with this well written piece. I think there is some evidence that Poe certainly had enough problems in his life to cause depression and without modern medications he probably did turn to alcohol to self medicate....which could also explain the dreams/hallucinations from which he reputedly suffered. Lots to think about in this excellently written piece.

Thanks for the very interesting and informative artist notes. The poem was an easy read that flowed well. Nice rhyme and rhythm. Eager Allen Poe was a man in great pain
through out his life. Even with all the sorrow and pain he wrote beautiful poems that are just as popular today ( maybe more) as when he penned them. You have done a great job yourself.

Spectacular. Amazing internal and end rhyme pattern all the way through. Incredible images in awesome descriptive language that reminds one of Poe, but it is all your own. Poe insane? Of course not. Crazy? I hope so. Crazy is what boring normal people call those of us that are more clever than they are! It's a compliment. Great piece. mikey

Awesome piece and great idea to further the story of lost Lenore. The rhyming makes the poem flow smoother and faster adding to the intense feel as well as to the fearful anticipation. I kind of think all great artists are a little, well, "unique with some more than interesting quirks and qualities." That's what sets them apart and enables them to see, to feel, and to convey so much better than the normal, standard rest of the world. Love E.A. Poe. A true master of the written word. Your piece honors him well.

This is yet another fantastic poem that the author has created with this piece of work. I thought I caught hints of Edgar Allan Poe long before I heard mention of Lenore or the great poet's name. Well done yet again.
