Pretty good read, it has all the notions of grief and horror that came on that atrocious day. I like the structure of the poem and the final stanza is very good!

Thank you for this sobering tribute. Such a sad, shocking day that rocked our world. I hope we wake up and take control before worse happens. Thanks so much for sharing.

A thorough display of emotions, a respectfully open-minded and knowledgeable speech on that awful day's impact, Livelylinda.

LL, this moving write has a most interesting scattered rhyme which I enjoyed for a nice change. This entry is powerful in descriptive language and elicits the emotion intended. All the best in the contest. :0 GracieAnn

Looks like you pretty much described it here with this one that's for sure. So sad, but so true. Great job in putting to pen this little masterpiece.

This is a wonderful poem, so well written. I will never forget, not will any American, that day in September our world fell apart. In our lifetimes we had never seen the invasion of our country, and I hope we never do again.
Thank you for writing this to remind all of us of the disaster and the bravery of those who were there.

I truly thought I had reviewed this already, must be going nuts. I agree, it is incomprehensible how many lives were affected by this awful tragedy. Good use of metaphorical and descriptive language. Great picture, good luck in the contest. Faye

Faye: thanks for reading. I only got two votes in the contest, my usual fare, but the better poem won. Linda

You have perfectly described a horrible day in American history. The pain and agony that the victims must have felt that day and the ongoing sorrow their families will feel all their lives. Bill

Hi Linda
You bring back all the haunting memories. Feelings that shattered the soul, not just of Americans ... those who feel what you all must have felt ... it could have been our own country, yet as the world watched your pain, the realisation of horror and the pervading fear that enveloped us. For anyone to surrender the lives of their own to devastate so many in the name of a religious war. Difficult for us to understand a cruel god who could demand such bloodshed.
Excellent free verse, a strong and emotive poem. Great mono-rhyme in the second stanza ... created a 'pounding effect' to hammer the message home. You've told all that is relevant without wasting excess words ... captured the atricty in purely emotion without graphic detail of the blood and gore.
Very clever conclusion ... a clever way to wrap up your story:-
"but the octopus-like tentacles of grief
have attached themselves to our deepest flesh
and will never bring relief" - "octopus tentacles of grief" - tremendous phrasing and so apt .... yes there will never be relief from this world catastrophe. A heart-breaking them ... yet it must be remembered. I'm sorry I missed the vote in the contest. An excellent entry. Well done. Hugs - Lovi xoxoxo

Lovi: thank you so much for reading and sharing your thoughts with me. I only got two votes in the contest. However, I feel this poem is a 'keeper' and the one that beat me was a better poem. Linda
