Good speech Mikey. I will monitor how many reviews I get, co mpared to what I used to get. If I get more reviews, maybe, someone is reading about this topic. I t's really difficult for a poet to understand how much time goes into writing a novel. It saps all of your inner strength and time. Time is money! If you have SPAG issues, it takes extra effort to research and study grammar from indexes. The poetry world and novel world are two different worlds. A recognized from a novel chapter equals an All Time Best in poetry. Reviews are much harder to get. Poets look at at like this. Hum... I can read this 5/7/5 and get a buck, or I can read a chapter and get the same? It takes member cent pumps to promote and takes reviews to get them cent pumps, unless you are well off financially. So, to really understand about what a novelists endures, you must try it for yourself, then you will understand. Seems... no matter how great your poem may be--it seems to produce the same results. You are not rewarded for extra reviews based on how hard and hoe many hours you spent creating a chapter. Heck, you could had spent that time and entered two or three contests with the amount of time you spent on the chapter. To get respect, you must try being a novelist. My primary goal is to get my novel edited to the best and fanstory fulfill my quest. So the reviewers are worth their weight in gold to me. They done their job. Publishing is a primary objective. I cherish every review I get. they will decide whether my chapters are good enough, thanks to them. I do like the $16.95 deal. That sounds like a good number. This alone will produce reviews, plus a deal. You save three bucks and promote it to the first page! That would help the novelist. i would buy it, instead of the 52 cents, it's worth the extra bucks. i see--this topic is getting reviews. Wow! An ATB! Anything can be improved, it's like editing, you can make it better. I'm all for -- the upgrades, if they come. I said enough. do loco

Before I read your first essay on this subject, I never thought about the difference between reviewing a poem and prose. I write both. Yes, writing prose takes longer and is has more complex , but poetry isn't a three minutes job. I guess it depends on how many stanzas you have in your poem. The last poem I wrote contained several stanzas and it took weeks to get it right. After all that hard work, I believe it deserves as much clout of member dollars as prose. However, when I write prose, which sometimes takes a month, should I expect it to receive higher members dollars? Some writers can shot out prose in a few days, some poets in a few hours. Is the point of difference weigh on an assumption of work input? How can we know who long or how hard it was for a poet or prose writer to complete their work? Novels and prose close to 4,000 should receive more member points due to their volume. It's difficult to come up with a correct answer that will satisfy everyone.

Again, your essay is powerful with supportive statements. The passion you feel about this subject is clear and presented with respect for your fellow fan story writers.

Hi, Mikey.
Great article that sheds light on a major discrepancy on the site. You have shown the many ways people review and the equal amount given to all. This does detour readers from spending time on longer pieces. Money aside, by reading a variety of styles, we learn and grow as writers. You'd think the site organizers would want to encourage this, rather than place obstacles in the way. Great post.
Bye
Rosalyne :)

Honestly, the issue of paying the same for poems and prose never came up for me. It never occurred to me that there was an imbalance. This brought it to my attention, and I'm grateful for that. All your points here are good, and I agree that it'll take a little time to work out the details, but the results would be something to look forward to.

Hello Mikey,

Way to go, sir! If you were running for virtual president of FS, I'd vote for you and make all my friends do the same.

I hope you will be instrumental in creating a bride to surmount the glaring discrepancies that exist at present.

Very well done! I salute you. :)

My head spinneth with these suggestions. It starts to sound really complicated after awhile. I admire you for taking up this concern. I'll have to check out the Forum.

By the way, there have been a couple of times when I've popped into a story mid-stream. If I like what I read, then I request the author give me a synopsis of what's happened up to the point where I jumped in. No one has ever said no. It's a great way for an author to gain a fan and a reader to enjoy the story no matter when they pop in.

Michael: I agree with you even thou I am new. Why not increase the stars too? We could go to tens for longer works. It took me two weeks to write a longer piece for a contest. Writing in the details and alleriteration takes more thought than a 5-7-5. Novels and researched pieces take more time with dialogue, character development and plots. Yes, more work than poems. Go for it. One more thing...can we add photos and music into our stories?

Yes. We can add photos and music. The trick is figuring out how to do it. I still don't know about music. The instructions in advanced editor don't work for me. I figured out an easy way to add some pictures though. You can copy and paste from a source like Bing Images right into advanced editor. It's so easy that I started laughing when it worked. I've been trying to figure out embedding and all that and it is honestly over my head. But, the copy and paste thing works for me. There are several people that add music. You'll run across them. Just ask, most of the people are happy to help. Let me know if you find out! I know that it can be downloaded from you tube as a video, but I don't know how to just make a video with sound. I have a lot of original music with lyrics and I'd love to post the music with the lyrics. Well, I'll soon open a thread in the forum so we can try and come up with some proposals for Tom. See ya there. Thanks for the great input. mikey

Excellent suggestions, and I do hope Tom will consider some of them. I'll check the forum to see what he says. I have no problem getting reviews with prose, since I have enough fans, but for newer members, I can see where it's frustrating.

I've been without a computer for almost two weeks. My little cell phone has kept me hanging on by my fingernails! Plus I just lost about 8,000 words of my book. Hahaha. Good times. Oh well, I don't seem to run out of words. mikey
