The sestina is one of my favorites -- not sure this senior mind of mine would ever let me try another one. I love the story of you and your classmates and the artwork is equally charming. Great to see a post from you.

Wow! I thank you very much for this review and generous rating. I don't do them often, but they seem to tell me when they will be the best form for my thoughts.

I see it more as an artistic endeavor then a writing one, and similar to layout and design. I hope you don't stop writing them.

    I thank you very much!

It was great reading your work again, Mike. I enjoyed your poem about friends and classmates. I do wonder about the use of double punctuation of semi-colon and a dash. It looks strange together. So glad to see you posting again.
Smiles,
Indy : )

The double pronunciation was a lot more common and can be found in a printer's union handbook for English. It was generally used in relating an ide. I haven't been posting much, but still spending a great deal of time writing. There will be other things to follow.

I appreciate the review and the compliments, and thank you for taking the time out. Mike

Sestinas are tough and this one stays true to its goal of remembering those classmates who have placed themselves deeply into our memories and lives. Nice.

I enjoyed reading this because you were so creative to compare growing up as a journey to the sea. It reminded me of salmon going back to their birthplace to renew the circle of life.

I appreciate both your generosity and analogy for the review and the compliments.

Even though a lot of religions are far different then Zen, I noticed with believers there always seemed to be, "a path," principle to their life. While it is good talking about their traveling though life, it always struck me as inaccurate about life itself. I used the sea because even of a little body of water is temporarily cut off from the sea life still thrives there, as well the fact that so much sea life is started that way and released when the sea breaches it.

I remember your reviewing and know I had to really earn that exceptional rating. Mike

Life is a journey and you have captured it here in your poem - at the end of the day it is the relationships that are closest to us that gives us the most meaning.

What a clever photo!! :-)
in your parents' hearts - I made changes
more tidal pools then sea - than
good assonance in forever treasured
the sestina format is complex to follow and you've done it well :-)
a thoughtful poem, Mike :-) Brooke

The photo is a headache because it was hard to do. With the new computer, photoshop is no longer a program you buy, but you rent it on a monthly basis. The good thing is it gives you all the bells and whistles of the professional program at an affordable price.

Mating the images was a headache because I had to apply a graduation to the bottom of the top image so the two didn't blend together.

I have a lot of projects invade my life, which kept me from coming on and posting here, such as a paranormal investigation and with actually producing evidence to my surprise, had to learn the video editing process on the fly.

I prefer to call them sextina's but the class would only roll their eyes and say it figures. I love the form, and in a sense it is an old friend, and worthy adversary. Of course I had to make it mine and add a syllable count to it all.

I just love the process involved of writing one, which involves at least 100 hours of thought, and then takes at least 20 in writing. I see it as combination artistic endeavor and a word puzzle.

It figures on paper I actually wrote it as than, then transcribed it as then in typing. Just the one world to get me and I think in Baltimore, we pronounce them the same.

I thank you very much for your compliments, corrections and review. As always an honor. Mike

Starting from the visual, this poetic offering is right on.
When I got to "hormone laden" etc...I found myself cracking up. I once taught in a Middle School. OMG...I used to say the hormones were dripping down the walls. The walls actually smelled of hormones. I taught remedial reading. No one cared.

I love this review and thank you for it. I found a lot of memories are funny and amusing now, but definitely not at the time and being on sort of the outs myself has allowed me to see the progression. It is so nice to see others value the class. I thank you very much for this wonderful review. Mike

Your poem does an excellent job of telling the story of friendships, and how they shape our lives. I know I still remember a lot of my old childhood friends, and am so glad I do. Thanks for a nice read, I enjoyed it

I thank you very much for the compliments and this review. I had a vastly different experience regarding the class, but it is nice to see a lot of people now valuing what I did. Mike
