This is a ten. I have enjoyed many writings on the site. I have never just laughed out-loud like a girl...oh wait...I am a girl. I digress. This was so perfectly written, plumped out, punched up that I am not worthy.
Great job...and glad I got to read it.

I'm so glad I opened this, Lee. It's a bang-on story of a straight talkin' cowpoke, and how he found something other to poke than cows.
Loved that the female knew exactly what she was doing, and the men were completely lost as well as pussy-whipped.
Exceptional build on characters and superb use of dialogue. Sorry, I am out of sixes for the week.
Congratulations on your win.
Rose.

Thanks so much, Rose. Poking other than cows is a good thing.
I do like giving the females empowerment in my stories. Gives me a chance to make fun of myself. Thanks again. Peace, Lee

At least you don't have to poke fun.
As always, you make me smile.

Told in true Western fashion. Who would have thought that whores ran a town. Mae Belle was one shrewd operator. She knew she had the goods and sold it.I don't know much about American history, but I wonder if Sweat was the only town that made its fortune that way. Pleasant reading. Told down to earth without getting nasty. Olliebuster

Thank you, olliebuster. I' tried not be nasty, but it's tough when 'whore' is part of the title. I expect Sweat was one of many. Thank you again. Peace, Lee

Wow. And me with only a fiver left! Just checking the front page when I discovered that now, you're famous! Gee, and just think, I knew you back when...Great story, I mean, with a title like "The Whore War Of 1871," how could any man with some seltzer left in his bottle, refuse?
You topped yourself in the dialogue department, Mad Jack, Mae Belle and Enoch jumped right off the page, into full blooming life.
Congratulations, my friend!
Got to read Part Two, irish

Thank you, irish. 'Seltzer left in his bottle'-great line.
I'm sure the word 'whore' had nothing to do with my win. Next, I'm going to write a 'slut' story.
Part 2 is snugged into my portfolio--Whore War--The Climax.
I hope you enjoy. Peace, Lee

This was just amazing. I can surely see why you won the contest. The dialogue was perfect, and you seem to have captured the ambience of this period piece to a "t." And the story! What a tale! I can't wait for the next installment!

What a hoot, great fun read, and I love the language of the story-teller, it really adds to the tale. Congrats on the story of the month gong, well deserved.

Thank you, Frank. And I'm sorry about the abrupt ending--but, in fact, it was a two part story. If you want to read the rest, it's in my portfolio: Whore War--The Climax. Thanks again. Peace, Lee

I have a question? You won story of the month, and deservedly so. I have two stories I have written that might have a snowballs chance, however I can't seem to find, "Story of the Month", anywhere on this site. Would you be so kind as to direct me as to how to enter this phantom monthly contest.

Hey, Frank. Thanks for the kind words about my story. Here's how Story of the Month works: Every short story and essay posted during a given month is automatically eligible to be nominated for the SotM contest. The stories and essays that receive the best reader reviews, are usually those that are nominated. There is no specific way to 'enter' the SotM contest.
Usually pieces entered in site contests or prompts don't get nominated for this award--but I've never seen a rule prohibiting such a thing.

I love to win SotM, but my real goal is to write something good enough to get nominated every month. Once you're nominated, I'd call you a winner. This month I got lucky and won. But writing something good enough to be nominated during every month is my real goal.

I hope this is helpful to you, Frank.

If you have other questions, I'll do my best.

    Peace, Lee

This is funny, sexy, well written and a fast read. Ah ha, and with a moral I can see. Just plain silly fun. Good job.
I like the characterizations and the female empowerment.
