I love the picture. I love the poem. The moon is hidden by grief. The stars are dulled. Romantic dreams seem tainted. A good soul is dead. The soul wrote of beautiful nature. The soul has left us grieving but we are proud of the life it lead. But he left us many good writings. He is dead but never gone. The soul gave us a way to free ours from our earthly cage. Great work. Good luck with the contest.

A lovely tribute to Pam in Italian Sonnet form. She'd have loved your imagery. You're right. We'll be remembered by what we leave behind. And writing last a long time. :) nancy

I can see a well structured and well crafted sonnet in this piece. The ABBA rhyming scheme is well done. I love the alluring nature of the poem

What you just wrote about here is so very true. Look at some of the greats that are no longer with us, but yet their words ignite a passion within our souls. There are quite a few poets on this site that can do this, and some that have left us to journey on to there next dimensional experience. This was just an excellent piece of poetic art to have read and written this response for... John

John, thanks for the kind words.
Of course I had Gungalo in mind, but also other poets who have left us recently.

A beautiful sonnet. I don't know if this was intentional, but it did make me think of the greatly missed Gungalo. A beautiful poetic form, and you have used it well. Take care, my friend~Debbie

yes, Gungalo was in my mind, but I also wanted this to be relevant to others.

A lovely tribute put to verse. There is a delicate ease that flows from line to line as the cadence slips along on the memory of this departed poet, writer and friend. Well done.
Till the last amen

This is a beautifully crafted Italian Sonnet
and a lovely tribute to our friend and fellow poet.
Rhyme and meter are well done and the imagery
is lovely.
"Enwrap the stars with gloomy velvet shroud,
conceal in darkness lovers' moon that gleams"...
poetically describes the mood of those left behind.
Thank yu for sharing and best of luck in the contest. Nancy

I realize this could be a tribute to any lost friend I get the impression the author is being specific to one who passed recently who was a friend to many on this site. This is well written about how a writer leaves much behind so they can never really be gone. We can mourn their passing but celebrate their life through what they achieved while they were among us.

This sonnet brought to mind the two friends we have lost at fanstory. It is true that writers don't die, they just reincarnate to paper, ink and memories.
