I love the picture. I love the poem. It speaks of both sides of the war. Both sides can feel the heat of anger and fear. Precious lives are lost. Families are destroyed. It is better to have peace. Neither side was wrong until the killing started. Great work. Good luck with the contest.

It's a hard thin line, between helping and interfering. Sigh! The chaos of the world is a reflection of chaotic individual thinking. I like the way you've shown the two perspectives.
Good luck in the contest, Steve.

Thanks for the kind words - yes, I was trying to achieve a balance between the two perspectives.

What a powerful statement. You took "do as I say, not as I do" to another level.
Great job adhering to meter, rhyme, and wrap constraints. You weaved them all in with ease and without forcing any lines.
No matter how you slice it, two wrongs still don't make a right.

Thank you!

A very well written piece that shows both sides of the story from your viewpoint. I hardly think we can be blamed for their hatred, that seems to come naturally. I just pray our president's sending of more troops yesterday isn't the beginning of even more American lives lost for them. Good luck in the contest.

Steve, I honor you for writing this poem. It doesn't make any sense. Why DO they hate? They didn't appreciate a thing that our men did to help them, or the protection and money that came from the United States. Very touching and thought provoking. Carole

Oh wow. This is a very deep subject, a very emotionally true stance. I love this, looking honestly at both sides...there is ALWAYS both sides to consider, but most only vaguely see their own. Most excellent! Blessings tonight...Judy

This is very true and you have great courage to speak up about. Our promises like out swords have two edges. We more often make thing worse than better

This one is excellent, for our country actually went into another country and began this war which turned out to be the worst thing we could have done. Please read my "War In Irag" which I wrote some time ago, when the worst was happening.
I believe we both see this terrible war in the same way.

Thanks, Joan. I haven't read your piece yet, but I will take a look.
The chaos in the aftermath of the war is continuing...
